Bias alleged in probe of bonuses (Phil Inq re: Corbett)
A Lehigh Valley prosecutor says Attorney General Tom Corbett is focusing only on Democrats.

HARRISBURG - Attorney General Tom Corbett has shown "an appearance of partisanship" in his investigation into bonuses awarded to legislative aides and should turn the case over to an independent counsel, a Lehigh Valley prosecutor said yesterday ...

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said yesterday ... that there were plenty of examples that Republicans also paid large bonuses to staffers who worked on campaigns, but that "all we are seeing is Democrats being marched before a grand jury." ...

To date, 14 aides - all from the House Democratic caucus - have been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury in Harrisburg. Agents have also seized 20 boxes of records from the caucus' legislative research offices ...

Yesterday, Morganelli pointed out that Corbett's 2004 campaign was bankrolled in part by top Republican Senate and House leaders who doled out bonuses to their staffers last year ...
