Is Al Gore considering? He posted 3 new videos on Current yesterday
I found this on this DailyKos diary:
<http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/10/15/11302/103>

Gore uploads three campaign-style videos on Current.com
by Barcelona
Mon Oct 15, 2007 at 08:40:13 AM PDT

This will be a short, hit-and-run diary. People need to go to Current.com and view the three short videos Gore uploaded last night, one entitled Healthcare is a right,, one called Americans deserve more protection and the third entitled Get the troops home (H/T Lorikat). All Gorites and those with an open-mind, head over to Current.com and view the clips! Then sign up to the site so you can discuss them.

UPDATE: Here is the link to the Registration page on Current.com

Barcelona's diary :: ::
My take? It's lookin' good for the Draft Gore Movement... But what do you all think? Is he getting in? Is he messing with our minds? Have at it!

Crossposted at Docudharma and Truth and Progress

I've watched them. They are concise video diaries on Current with Al Gore doing the talking and which he loaded yesterday:

1. Get the Troops Home <http://current.com/items/84986481_get_the_troops_home>
Gore: The longer we stay, the more we're a magnet for violence.

2. Healthcare is a Right <http://current.com/items/84987281_health_care_is_a_right>
Gore: Our current system doesn't work and is way too expensive.

3. Americans Deserve more Protection <http://current.com/items/84986911_americans_deserve_more_protection#>
Gore: Congress has failed to exercise its responsibility to make sure the Executive Branch is doing what it's supposed to.

----

I will point out the obvious, that it is VERY interesting that he has posted new videos on three issues near to progressives' hearts OTHER than climate change.

Is he just helping the re-launch of Current or testing the waters?

Mr Gore, if you plan to run, please announce soon. Now would be nice.

...Our corporate owned media is obviously desperate to belittle Gore. They’re starting to appear transparent.

You watch FOX and they’re still praising a failure like Bush. America has to see that degrading a WINNER of the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE just isn‘t cool!!!

Tomorrow maybe. But by Thursday, it would be dumb to announce, as the weekend is coming. I suppose there is next week, but after that, it seems too late to get in.

I got on here straight from my bed this morning to see if he had announced.

32. Reading and watching the right wing media, I am hearing heads popping from fear, ...
I wonder if ever before someone who has stated over and again, 'I am not a candidate', has garnered so much spasmodic negative press.

Since the announcement of the Nobel, nasty hit pieces in the WaPo and Wall Street Journal, and Faux news and CNBC are talking of the ruination of the economy if Gore was to become president. With so much attention, one wonders if there is some inside information or simply paranoia driving the concerted one sided bashing.

In addition once again, when asked directly if he was considering a run, he skirted the possibility with a non denial, denial. In unison with the denial he was staking positions on taxation and the emerging alternative energy economy needed to progress toward meeting atmospheric carbon goals, as well as asserting the need of restoring US government leadership and 'cooperation' in shaping the global economy.

The feeling is a campaign without a campaign, in search of the right moment to maybe, or not, declare with definition, Yes or No.

One thing is certain, he is getting a lot of ink and TV time, and illustrating a certain polarity of opinion. Far more polarity from economic ideology, than Hillary will ever generate from the supposed 'center'. It has often been voiced that Hillary will activate the conservative republican base in the general election, but I think Al Gore will inflame more steadfast passion and resistance. And, I think he is more feared by Wall Street and their mass media.

I would very much like to see his hat in the ring, but I feel a very polarized fight for the general election ahead, if he enters. That most people vote their pocket book before preservation of the future good, it adds another dimension to the skirmish.

48. If hes not stating his positions, then he must be endorsing Kucinich!
If he doesn't run I would still be happy because it sounds like he falls inline with Kucinich on health care, war and the defense of the constitution. I am curious how much airtime these pieces will get? Do you think the media will run with them or just do hit and run pieces about it? I will be waiting patiently.

It's what a campaign ad SHOULD, yes, should be. No bullshit, no spin, no graphics, no attacks.

Just the candidate stating the position without equivocation.

I was winding down on my hopes on a Gore run, but this is a shot in the arm.

And even of Gore does not run, I think he's goiung to be showing us what an ideal, honest, adult and healthy campaign would look like.

I'm fricken amazed at this.

I know they're in the midst of the best season comeback in baseball history and I know they're going to the World Series, but I still haven't let it sink in. Many books will be written.

Gore is running.. There's more proof coming out every day, but the best proof comes from listening to the RW noise machine. They're very worried about Gore running again, not so much about Hillary. I find that funny because even Hillary would beat the crap out of their best candidate. They haven't let THAT sink in yet.

As you say, as the RW noise machine trots out all their Ozone Man crap, the more popular he becomes. It like he's rubber and they're glue.

What have they got over there? Grandpa "Time to wake up now, Fred" Thompson or Rudy "9/11, 9/11, 9/11" Ghouliani or John "Can you spare a dime" McCain?

Give me one reason to be excited. The current lot of candidates SUCK. Some just feel compelled to get behind one of them, because we need to 'root root for the home team'. A Gore/Clark team would easily take the White house in 2008...Hillary/Christ is a loser.

28. I'm convinced now that Gore is running...
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 02:30 PM by TwoSparkles
Everywhere Gore goes, he is deluged with signs promoting his Presidency
and people urging him to run. He understands that millions are aching
for a Gore run. Can you imagine the movers and shakers with whom he
is surrounded? I saw that he appeared with Jackson Browne and other stars.
You gotta know that they are bending his ear and strongly urging him to run.

He knows better than all of us--how many want him to desperately run--because
he probably hears it every day.

With that said. Look at these position videos. They are well made and
well written. He put a great deal of time and energy into them. He
understands that these are campaign positions and that they could be
interpreted as a strong sign that he is running.

I think he's ramping up--in his own way, in his own time. He's calling the shots.

I do not think that Gore would come out with these position videos--in the
heat of the Democratic primary season--and play with the emotions of his millions
of steadfast, hopeful, pleading supporters--if he was not running. He knows that
we're all on pins and needles. He knows what's at stake for this country.

He would not do that to us. He would not write, produce and disseminate these videos
unless it means he's running.

I'm convinced now. Now we wait for his next move. I feel like a greyhound, waiting
inside the gate. I can't wait to sprint out of the box and work tirelessly for
this beautiful man who will save this country.

I feel so hopeful.

30. Great summary. I think you are right.
Why make these videos if he's not running - when he knows it will only stir up support for his candicacy? I think he might have done this as a sign to his supporters that he will eventually enter the race. I think he's asking us to be patient.

42. Yep. Why create videos about these 3 topics NOW?

I mean, if he were content to remain as the leading voice ONLY on the subject of the climate emergency -- THEN WHY WOULD HE CHANGE THE SUBJECT right now? He has a huge audience about the climate right after the Nobel Prize. Instead, he is creating videos to voice his opinion and leadership about other issues.

If he only wanted to call more attention to climate change, then he could have made more videos on new climate change discoveries and data. If he only wanted to get traffic on Current.com - then he could have made a video about the need for independent TV or news coverage. If he only wanted to guide the other candidates toward what he considers the REAL issues, then why THIS timing? It seems he could have been patient and released these closer to the Democratic Convention Anyway...pins and needles. Pins and needles.

I'd love to see Gore/Dean. or Gore/Edwards. Or Gore/RFK Jr. Gore/Boxer. Or just Gore/Anyone.

60. Having positions on issues as a statesman is leading people on?
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 07:51 PM by RestoreGore
Now I've read it all. So he's supposed to shut up unless he's running for something? Did he ask for donations? Has he done anything else? No, he stated his views on important issues on the day he launched his new station to read others' views on those issues. Too bad all he is getting is more begging. And he has proven his book right yet again.

67. Don't be too hard on him.
We all feel the frustration of what has been going on in our country and hell even in our own party. If it turns out that he doesn't run, you still must decide who to vote for. I do like DK and if Gore doesn't run I will vote for him. It would be a nice combo (wishful thinking) of a Gore/Kucinich ticket. I have hypothesized in my own head that somehow he may not be running because of Hillary and the ties and respect between Bill and himself.
Al, if you are reading this, the hell with that as your country needs you more. Al, you also know the stands Hillary has been making and the shambles she'd further make in our government so Bill would certainly understand even if Hillary bitches. Just do it.:toast:

74. Nah, continuing to skirt around the question is leading us on.
Making videos like this just compell people to see his skirting around the issue a different way.

He's not interested, and he knows he can't win.

80. "And he knows he can't win" ????
Maybe he will have the election STOLEN from him again, but I guarandamntee you that he'd have FAR & AWAY the biggest majority of Americans voting for him than any candidate in American history.

And if the neonazis who have taken over this country want to finally have their people's war, they can try to steal it from him again. This whole country would go up in smoke at the hands of the angry populous if they stole it again.

54. Intriguing! When you click on his name, these are the only videos on his current web page!
They look like he made the videos in his garage or rec room. I believe I read somewhere today that he arrived at his home in Tennessee last night.

that if Gore should decide to run that all other candidates should withdraw unless called upon to be his vp. I am certainly of the opinion he deserves to be in the white house and was robbed of it once. We need his calibre in there to do a service not just for us, but for his country in light of the criminal goings on in our government and our country by those that thwarted not just you Al, but all of us. We all took it personnal and it's our fight too. I would like our party to finally throw some punches that land and if need be a kick where the sun don't shine.:applause:

77. The clips on Current.com are no big deal.
Al Gore is not saying anything new in those clips. His statement on Iraq is what he told Larry Ling on CNN back in May.

Al Gore on CNN Larry King Live, May 2007

KING: Email question from Jose in Simi Valley, California. "If you were to become president, how would you tackle the inherited problem of Iraq, which somebody is going to inherit?"

And in that line, a follow-up question from Washington, D.C. What's your question?

CALLER: Hi. I wanted to ask Mr. Gore where he sees Iraq in five years from today.

KING: OK, let's loop them together. Somebody is going to inherit this problem. It ain't going away.

GORE: Well, it -- it's like taking the wheel of a car in the middle of the skid. You have really got to feel where the give is, how to steer out of the skid, how to avoid the crash. And we are headed for a really -- well, we are already in serious trouble -- headed for worse.

There are no easy options. They've created this situation where there really are no good choices. We have to choose the less -- the least worst choice and...

KING: So?

GORE: ... here are the two objectives that we have to pursue simultaneously. Number one, get our troops out of there and home as quickly as possible.

Secondly, do it in a way that honors our nation's moral obligation, which all of us have, regardless of whether we opposed or supported the invasion. We have a moral obligation not to make an already terrible situation even worse in the manner of our leaving.

But there is evidence that in some areas, indeed, the violence could get worse if we precipitously pulled out in the wrong way. But there's evidence in much of the country that the continued presence of the troops is a magnet for violence aimed at them. And the overall continued deterioration of Iraq and the -- what appears to be the real failures of the government in place there create a set of options that are really awful. So...

KING: So what's the less -- what's the -- all right. You're president. How do you get...

GORE: We need to get our troops home as quickly as possible.

KING: In other words, if you were president January 31st, 2009, your first act would be starting withdrawal? You'd start bringing home...

GORE: No, no. As I said before, I would grab hold of the situation and make an immediate assessment of what the best options were to manage this catastrophe.

KING: You don't know what they are. You don't know...

GORE: No, I mean, I know what -- I know generally the families -- we need to get them out of there, as I've said. But we need to make a very clear analysis of how we can get out of there without making it much worse than it is now.

The only new part is that Al Gore is inviting us to post comments on his clips. But I don't think it means he is about to announce his candidacy. And time is running out ....

He is stating his case.

He will be President.
