269-269 tie. It's possible.
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 11:15 PM by Bleachers7
If we win all the states from last time and pick up NH and WV, it's a draw. Imagine that.

More incentive to pick up house seats.

1. That would be ironic and funny
if it wasn't so fucked up.

First time around Supreme Court elects Bush.

The second time around the House of Representatives elects him.

He would be the first president in U.S. History to serve two terms without being elected by the voters.

32. Or worse, Tom DeLay would be president...
Actually I don't think they can do this but somebody mentioned it last time there was a 269-269 thread and I found the idea funny at first. And just because they control the house doesn't mean they get Bush in automatically, they need a majority of the congressional delegations because it's done by the single vote per state system.

33. It's possible. There could also be shenanigans.

They could nominate you if you were 35. Electors could switch sides or do other crazy stuff. This would throw the country into turmoil

7. Florida is a lost cause as long as Jeb is in charge. Think OHIO
OHIO alone would make the difference.

There is no reason in the world for anyone in Ohio to support the moron this time around.

13. Not true
Any Dem will carry Cuyahoga County (not just DK's district), plus do really well in Akron, Toledo, and Youngstown.

Repuke country is Cincinnati and the rest of SW Ohio (incl. Dayton), and most of rural Ohio, save for a couple pockets way down on the Ohio River and Athens County, home of a very liberal college town.

The key is central Ohio, namely Columbus. If we can carry that area, Ohio is winnable. Also, many of the rural counties in the east could swing more our way due to job loss.

25. I saw it a while ago there.
Edwards has pissed people off by running for president half of his first term. Besides that, it's a southern state. I think Bush is a nice guy to them who tries to do the right thing.

3. Anything is possible.
Which is why we need to do our best to ensure that it doesn't end up that way. We know from 2000 that we can't count on a recall happening in a close call situation. No, not with right-wingers dominating the SCOTUS.

24. Well
I have discussed it with a couple people here. It is up in the air. The odds against it are very high. I am not situated right to do it. Then again, I am going to one of the Camp Wellstones this weekend (pre-planned). Also, the guy that ran last time was a real turd. Hopefully the next person will be better. I might go for it if it's vacant, but I have to find a way to make money.

:hi:

I think I can hammer this guy if I campaigned 24-7. I could turn seniors, laborers, and regular families on him. He voted for the war, medicare, and I believe the patriot act and a few other undesireable things. Besides that, he is a whore to the money. H ehas taken tons of PAC, lobby, and corporate money.

34. Very, very possible--I think it's more likely than us picking up FL
Chimps argument will be--i won more states (which he undoubtedly will, since he's the favorite in states where farm animals outnumber people) and that "the rule of law has been followed."

But, that being said. Congresspeople will be under intense pressure to vote for the candidate who won their states and districts (see the 1999 Mississippi gubernatorial election which went to the state house of reps.) which in all likelihood the Dem will win since he would win more populous states.

But any way you slice it it would be a fucking nightmare.

37. Chances of a tie are .05% of all swing state combinations
Out of the 21 swings states 344 combinations can be created. I am working on a computer program that is both interactive and prints out the resulting combinations. Does anyone know how to create all possible combinations of an ARRAY and not a SET in Turbo Pascal?

38. Here is a possible 269-269 tie
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 04:26 AM by ps1074
If the Democratic nominee wins:

California - 55
Colorado - 9
Connecticut - 7
Delaware - 3
DC - 3
Hawaii - 4
Illinois - 21
Iowa - 7
Maine - 4
Massachussets - 12
Maryland - 10
Michigan - 17
Minnesota - 10
New Jersey - 15
New Mexico - 5
New York - 31
Oregon - 7
Pennsylvania - 21
Rhode Island - 4
Vermont - 3
Washington - 11
Wisconsin - 10

Basicly - CO goes to the dem column and the other states stay the way they were 2000. This is just one of the possible REALISTIC scenarios, there surely are more.

The other possible scenario is instead of CO, the Dem nominee wins LA (both CO and LA offer 9 electoral votes).

Third possible scenario is instead of CO, the Dem nominee wins NV and NH for a combined 9 electoral votes.
