Clintons applaud Gore for Nobel Peace Prize
12 Oct 2007 15:55:55 GMT
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, Oct 12 (Reuters) - U.S. Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, applauded Al Gore on Friday for winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

. . .

Bill Clinton said he was "thrilled by this well-deserved recognition" for his former vice president and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

"Al Gore has been warning and educating us about the dangers of climate change for decades," Clinton, the U.S. president from 1993-2001, said in a statement.

"He saw this coming before others in public life and never stopped pushing for action to save our planet, even in the face of public indifference and attacks from those determined to defend the indefensible."

3. I just read of Edwards and Hillary's messages of congratulations to Gore -- very
nicely done, the both of them.

I haven't seen any other comments from the Dem Candidates Club -- has anyone else?

that Al has poured into the issue.

This points out the LIE of the "re-inventing himself" meme the media corpse has been spewing.

Good on them!

9. It's reassuring to see the way Bill treats Al after the
2000 campaign. Bill is able to acknowledge and congratulate Al's accomplishments. Too bad it didn't happen in the other direction.

14. Whoa.A bit of snark there. Hey if Bill had kept his pants zipped we might have had Al as Prez.
It isn't as though Bill was blameless in Al losing that race. Al is part to blame and the election was stolen, but no question if the pecadillio hadn't have occurred, there would have been a much bigger victory for Al and Florida might not have mattered.. I wouldn't be pleased with Bill either if I were Al.

10. Biden's statement
“Vice President Gore did what nobody else could do – he made global warming a kitchen-table issue. I am confident that our world will reap the benefits of his powerful call-to-action and international leadership for generations to come. Today’s award also recognizes that when it comes to climate change, there’s even more at risk than the environmental health of the planet. Climate change is a new, and very different, international security challenge. If it continues at the current rate, it will cause shifts in fundamental building blocks of economic, social and political systems around the world. I congratulate Vice President Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, not only for their efforts in raising awareness of the dangers of global warming, but also for their unique contributions in promoting peace.”

19. I could go for Gore/Biden...
Edited on Sat Oct-13-07 09:15 PM by Froward69
then again IF he runs... However think in Gores shoes just now. He has been Vindicated. would having the presidency stolen from you be easily forgettible? Do we Deserve his leadership? If he could forgive the United States? Forgive the republicans? Be a truly Fair and Just leader? if he could find it in himself. he Should Run.

21. agreed
but since I am having more and more doubts that Gore will do it, though, I am thinking Biden/Edwards with Gore continuing what he is doing but with a much greater influence on US policy - both in climate issues and in diplomacy.

Biden is expert in international relations/issues - and his head is the right place with Edwards on domestic populist issues as well. They would be a phenomenal team. Biden would happily give Edwards his head in tackling the things he is so passionate about - Edwards would be just as effective in #2 as he would in #1 - and Biden's leadership in the Balkans and now in Iraq is well known and respected in the international community. Plus he can gut you like a trout from 20 paces with just a look! He'd be perfect to face down Putin, Ahmadinejad, Kim, etc. Put Richardson in UN and work to restore that as the international body for peace that it should be.

24. Bill Clinton did not submit the Kyoto Treaty to Congress
He only paid lip service to the environment, as he did to LGBT rights.
