Kerry carries too much baggage. Time for DUers to jump on the Edwards Express.

ABK until Edwards bows out. Go Edwards!

1. Clark is supporting Kerry
I'll stick with Kerry. He was my #1 choice before Clark entered the race.

3. Never...ever will I vote for Edwards!
You do know the man STILL thinks that illegally and pre-emptively attacking another country just because the leader was a "bad man" is the RIGHT thing to do, right? He thinks what the Bush cabal did to us and Iraq was the RIGHT THING TO DO! No fucking way is he getting my vote. sorry.

19. It does suck.
The ONLY thing that saves Kerry and gives him my vote...MAYBE... is the fact that he has said he regrets his vote and he will re-do the Patriot Act.....and will maybe take Wes Clark as VP. If he doesn't take Clark as VP....I have until Nov. to decide which I hate more. Bush and his cabal or Kerry's IWR and Patriot Act votes. At least he regrets them, but it doesn't excuse the fact that he DID vote for them. Edwards? No way will I vote for him. I wish Kucinich had a chance to win. :(

20. Hey your makin sense to me!
Yes, there is no doubt that Kerry's positions and voting record makes him closer to Clarks platform rather than Edwards.

which is one of the reasons I support him (so why in the world would I support Edwards?).

6. Careful what you mean when you say "Time"

When you capitalize Time it makes it seem like Time Magazine will back Edwards. I seriously doubt that since Time/Life is a "Skull & Bones" company.

22. I just can't get over the oximoronic nature of that statement
If Clark had actually wanted new leadership, Kerry is the last guy running at the time to endorse.

So he didn't like Edwards or was tempted into the camp, fine, I don't know and I don't care, just don't make these apples and refrigerators kind of statements.

9. Clark's ideas about foreign policy
are quite different from Edwards'. I don't see how it can be reconciled (and yes, I know Kerry voted for the resolution). I think Kerry will now challenge the idea of conquests as a foreign policy position.

13. Well conceptually
Clark doesn't think attacking nation states is the way to deal with terrorism such as that which occurred on 9/11. He says that approach is flawed. If you care to challenge that, you should read his book, "Winning Modern Wars".

16. Thanks.
I'll try to pick that up. I hope Clark finds a place in an Edwards administration.

I don't fool myself about my candidate and I know he will need good people beside him for military and foreign policy issues.

17. Here's an enlighting article he wrote immediately after 9/11
He lays out the whole damn blueprint of what should have been done - Bush could have taken that off the paper, but no...

Anyway, here it is:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/wtccrash/story/0,1300,552315,00.html

There you can read the essence of his views on the use of military force within the rest of the foreign policy "mix" applied to a specific, high-profile crisis.

Back to the present: international security / policy is one of the key reasons why I agree that Clark and Kerry are a very good match; much, much better than Kerry / Edwards or Edwards / Clark.

21. Thanks for the link.
I have long thought Edwards/Clark would be the best ticket but with Clark so strongly getting behind Kerry, I'm not that sure it would work anymore.

I believe Edwards is in the best position to bring this country together and make progress on domestic issues like taxes and especially in reducing the lobbyist influence in Washington. With the political landscape more unified I also think we would be better able to implement a smarter foreign policy, hopefully with General Clark involved at some level.

15. He thought going after al Queda
and the Taliban was correct. But he doesn't think the approach of the PNAC is right. He believes in joint operations with midddle eastern countries to root out the terrorists is the right approach. The conquest of Iraq was not necessary in his opinion and unrelated to the al Queda network.

14. You realize
that this is mutiny??!!! /sarcasm

I just don't feel like it is up to me to decide the primary. I made my choice and I intend to vote for that choice, unless Kerry is in dire straights in which case I will cast my lot with him.

18. Nope, but I like the Clark slide show :)
A personal injury attorney with a few years in the Senate, trusted with the most powerful position in the world at a time of war?

I. Don't. Think. So.

25. Fortunately
You don't have to if you don't wanna! Just wait for the nominee to be chosen. :)

Me, Kerry was my number two, anyway. I didn't make a fuss about it, until Edwardsmania hit the forum, heh.

24. Clark wants Bush OUT. His judgment is Kerry can do that.
It is an adult judgment based on the best intelligence available but Clark is also aware of how easy it is to get into trouble with something like that.

Edwards is a pretty good salesman but he really has a background which militates against his being an effective president (I had to post that late at night because my wife is a big time Edwards supporter now that Clark is on hiatus).

On paper Kerry is the stronger candidate but I didn't think he had much of a chance back in August 2003 and as far as I can tell nothing has changed. I'll vote for him in November, if he's the nominee, but I hope and pray the voters prove me wrong about the outcome.

I honestly don't believe the nation will survive another four years of Bush and remain a free and democratic country.

26. Edwards is a good man who has no clue about foreign policy
Edited on Thu Feb-19-04 12:41 AM by tameszu
Even if he beat Bush on his domestic policy alone (on which he has a good message--although his flipping around on NAFTA will bite him on the butt; another indication that he doesn't understand the complexity of the international issues in which he's involved), it would be an acute disaster for the Dems and the international community long term. Four years of muddled Dem foreign policy would improve economic outcomes for our poorest short term, but it would also probably mean 8-12 years of Republican presidents afterwards--think Jimmy Carter.

Edwards is a very good man, a great campaigner, and completely the wrong guy for the job for both America and the world right now. That's why I agree that Clark was right to endorse the rather flat Kerry...
