Kucinich files incorrect paperwork twice, remains on MI ballot
LANSING -- Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich remains on the Michigan Jan. 15 presidential primary ballot along with Hillary Rodham Clinton and two others, despite his attempts to withdraw.

Four other Democratic candidates have taken their names out of contention, turning the primary into basically a beauty contest for front-runner Clinton and the other three lesser-known candidates.

Barack Obama, John Edwards and Bill Richardson filed paperwork Tuesday saying they were withdrawing. Two other candidates, Joe Biden and Dennis Kucinich, said in statements that they also were bypassing the primary.

But Kucinich twice filed incorrect paperwork with the secretary of state's office, and had not filed a notice of withdrawal with his notarized signature by Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, said the office's spokesman, Ken Silfven.

A campaign manager first signed the paperwork, then the campaign sent in another withdrawal notice signed by Kucinich. But the signature had not been notarized as required.

"Unless his camp wants to litigate the matter, his name will appear on the ballot," Silfven said Wednesday.

1. That's comforting. He couldn't file the correct paperwork on either of two attempts.
geez.

2. I love Dennis, but if you want to run for president, you have to have someone

who understands the arcane election laws of 50 different states.

It's tempting to say that these laws need to be cleaned up, but on the other hand, the ability to assemble a competent staff is a requirement of an effective presidency.

The anti-Hillary vote won't be going to Obama or Edwards.

10. Scariest 2% candidate out there.
Seriously though, this type of thing is why I can't support Kucinich. It just reinforces my opinion of him as a guy with some good ideas but incapable of getting anything done.

15. Its the facts of 2002 that scare them. Hes the little guy but...
he is the ONLY one that was right when thousands of lives counted. Do I want someone that can run a great campaign or someone that looks at the facts and votes for whats right? Hmmmm I think I will go for the candidate that doesn't get people killed for money and power. People forget that if he were president he wouldn't have to worry about selling out to the corporations to hire a staff, he could put together a great staff without selling the people out. That is what I want in President, someone that speaks for the people, not one that kills the people for the corporations!

to believe the mainstream media and the Republican Secretary of State from Michigan.

19. An awful lot of people are ignoring the real issue here.
Hey, guess what folks? There's a reason that Kucinich might try to pull out.

DK can't afford to campaign in MI. Neither can some of the other less-funded candidates.

Yes, it's a real gamble to pull out of MI, but what's the alternative? They get 5% because they can't afford to play there, and then they have to drop out because they're out of money and/or haven't had a good showing. If they pull out, then they might earn some goodwill from the rest of the Dem voting population who, quite frankly, might be angry at MI (and FL) over this primary calendar crap.

Well, there you go. That's exactly why we have small states as the earliest primaries.

Congrats, leapfroggers. You got just what you wanted.

20. Dennis doesn't need any money to campaign in Michigan ...
Because none of the Dems are campaigning in that state. He could actually win by staying on the ballot and doing nothing.

At least he wasn't "incorrect" on his anti-war, anti-invade Iraq stance.

22. Yeah, but don't forget that in 2004, instead of throwing
his Iowa Caucus votes to the only other anti Iraq war candidate, he threw them to Edwards- and never gave an explanation. sorry, but that says something rather sad.

25. I think it says that
he let personal feelings get in his way. It's either that or drawing the conclusion that he wasn't really serious in his opposition to the Iraq war- and I don't buy that for a minute.

A. The "MSM"
B. Corporate (fill in the blank)
C. The always dreaded "powers that be."
