Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 07:01 PM by corporatewhore
Does he want to withddrawl or does he really believe it can be tweaked what about WTO/IMF/GATT/CAFTA/FTAA? This is my litmus test in GE because it encompasses every thing i dont like outsourcing slavery privatisation of publically owned services even water the rape of land the theft of land from indigenous people Corporatism spread andinfestation of Genetically modified food militarization and to sum it all up imperialism.I'd even vvote for a republican if they were running on an antifreetrade withdrawl from nafta platform

1. I think Kucinich is the only one calling for withdrawl from NAFTA

4. You are right--
most are tweakers. I believe I heard Edwards give the usual lame
--taxcuts. I do believe he wants to renogiate so that Environmental and labor standards could be included. I think we have to be realist--this Kerry's position also. Edwards just makes people thinks he feels their pain better. Both parties at this time are wedded to free trade because of corporate contibutions and
connections. At least these two candidates are willing to something
has gone wrong.

6. Hey, no provisions for re-negotiation in the NAFTA treaty.
So is Edwards gonna throw it out, or let it stand as is? NO HALFWAY POSSIBLE. You would think a lawyer would know that.

3. I think

Democrats and I myself thought NAFTA would be a good thing for the world as a whole. I thought that while the standard of living may drop here slightly it would rise in other nations in the third world. I think almost any politician would have voted for it, including Edwards even though he says he wouldn't now to gain votes. The reason i thought it would work is because America started with child labor and sweat shops and the people rose up and fought for rights. I thought this would bring down tyranical governments around the world after sometime...it may still. After the workers of the world have continued to gain jobs for low wage though, they still haven't fought for rights in any way that i have seen, as Americans did. Perhaps it will take them decades as it did with our people. I don't believe you can negotiate workers and environmental rights with communist dictators and fascists that run the third world today. In my opinion the jury is still out on free trade.

* on edit..it would help if OUR government supported democracy in the third world and not repressive regimes.

5. He's much more trustworthy than Kerry.
He ran on an anti-NAFTA platform in 1998; has a much more fair record than Kerry; is from North Carolina; is putting the issue on the table; his father worked in a Milliken textile mill (Milliken was Pat Buchanan's biggest contributor in 2000). He's no Kucinich; and although I respect Kucinich voters, I don't want Kucinich to be the Nader of the primaries. Edwards is infinitely better than Kerry.
