If you consider DK and Sharpton as the only two candidate with an unequivocal anti-Iraq war position, then the 26 % drops to 4 %. The message is I guess that no-one gives a crap about Iraq. I guess that people are also satisfied with the Patriot Act.

1. That's pretty much the way I see it.

I even had one lady tell me she would NOT consider Wes Clark b/c she understood he was against the war and she was in full support "of what we are doing in Iraq". That was very disheartening to me. I have come to believe that the majority of people fell that way.

Probably, most of them don't even know what the Patriot Act are.

5. I think people are more concerned with the not-too-distant future...

America was genuinely spooked on 9-11, and Bush had seized the opportunity to make the country lash out irrationally and uncontrollably. We are still spooked in many ways, and I think in this election, people want to vote for the candidate that they think will best protect them from threats, real or imagined. I think if we've learned anything from Bush, is that life records are relatively insignificant.

the idea that the country as a whole has been grieving. Maybe that has contributed more than we realize to what, it seems to me, is a lot of craziness.

7. well, I agree with you that fear is playing some sort of role

but I think the votes in the past for IWR, and the current support for our occupation of Iraq speak volumes about what the future holds in that part of the world. In plainer words, a war begun with lies, and sustained by lies is not the kind of war that is going to bring happy consequences. But fear creates irrationality, I suppose.
