Poll question: Presidential Preference Poll *post Dean*
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 05:02 PM by wheresthemind
I was sad to see Dean go... just as I was sad to see all of the other great Democrats who ran drop out.

I believe we will win this election no matter the nominee and would love to see any of them in the White House.

I personally hope Sharpton drops and endorses Dennis... that could make for a very interesting 3 way race!

Sorry if this is a dupe... I looked for a new poll all over before posting this!

KEEP THIS KICKED!

2. I was sad to see all the candidates
I'm sorry any candidates had to drop out. Why can't we have a real debate?

Okay, so I'm not sorry Lieberman bowed out. But the rest I miss.

10. I will vote for the Democratic nominee...
Whichever of the last two unelectable saps it happens to be:

- Kerry, who has no credibility in balancing budgets, and voted against just about every single weapons program in the last 20 years (a fave idea among D.U.ers I'm sure, but believe me, a liability in the general election).

- Edwards, the ultra-inexperienced but ever so nice trial lawyer. (Again, not a bigee in the D.U., but a major problem in the G.E.)

Now will I give CASH to these guys like I did Dean? That remains to be seen. I want to see where they stand post GOP convention. No sense in throwing good money after bad.

- C.D.

69. Sharpton won't drop
http://lists.democracygroups.org/pipermail/rightwatch/2004q1/000216.html

"Roger Stone, the longtime Republican dirty-tricks operative
who led the mob that shut down the Miami-Dade County recount
and helped make George W. Bush president in 2000, is
financing, staffing, and orchestrating the presidential
campaign of Reverend Al Sharpton."

and

"Sharpton recently rebuffed an appeal by DNC chair Terry
McAuliffe to join a post-primary March 25 event to support
the nominee, sending a letter saying he would attend but
would also "continue to campaign vigorously until the last
day of the convention." He has also repeatedly vowed that he
would speak on prime-time TV during the July convention,
saying party leaders would decide "whether that's inside the
hall or out in the parking lot," threatening demonstrations

unless granted exposure guaranteed to turn off many voters.
Stone terminated a 45-minute Voice interview shortly after
he was asked about any involvement he might have had with
the letter to McAuliffe, saying he was "not characterizing
my conversations with Sharpton," though he freely did in a
recent Times interview."

23. 2nd choice is for Kucinich,
but Dean still gets my primary and GE votes. So where does the 2nd choice come in I ask? If DK can muster more than Dean's percentage (~15%) by the primary, then I would consider him. But until then, Dean gets my protest vote. :-)

On a darker note, I wonder if DK was in the race (or was used) to steal left votes from Dean, but it's sort of water over the dam now. He certainly is a great voice for the left.

Put Dean back in your poll and see how DK does. BTW, I think Dean is still on the ballots, no?

28. Jog my memory.
What did happen on 2/17/02? You're right about not knowing much about DK. I like what he says, just hate to see him syphoning votes off of Dean, who really could have been elected.

I come from a state where we have elected the only socialist to congress, but we're not trying to get him elected for president. We love Bernie Sanders where he is, and I personally would like to see him as a president. Just not going to happen, nor would he try. I've heard that DK was in the race more as a prelude to a senate run. If he drops out after Ohio, then that would lend some credence to that theory.

And I love Bernie. My ideal setup would be Kucinich/ Sanders.!!You've got such a treasure there. I'm jealous...I have slug Domenici.DK belongs as President, if not there, as Speaker of the House.

Why should he go to the Senate, a more elite club, when he represents "the people.?"

44. He was drafted to run for Prez after the "Prayer for America" speech
He received thousands of emails and letters from people who either heard or read the speech, asking him to run for President.

On February 17, 2003, he declared that he was setting up his exploratory committee for a presidential campaign.

I imagine if he was drafted to run for the Senate, he may very well have done that. However, he wasn't drafted for that-- he was drafted to run for president.

I've heard arguments that DK was a foil to syphon off liberal votes from Dean, but it doesn't really hold up to criticism, IMHO. Dean and Kucinich, while similar on many issues, were quite different on many other substantive points.

DK is against most wars, while Dean was only against this war. DK advocates cutting the pentagon budget, while Dean would leave it largely intact. Kucinich advocates a government-sponsored universal healthcare plan, while Dean's was based on a mix of public and private coverage. DK would repeal NAFTA, while Dean originally supported it and would only "modify" it.

I think many of Dean's supporters may have agreed with DK on more issues, but were supporting Dean because he seemed electable. Mind you, I'm not saying ALL of them, but many of them have even stated as much to me personally and on these boards.

Either way, we're all on the same team now. We want a change not only in the party, but in the country. And we can do a lot of cooperating to get that done.

Dennis Kucinich is known as a vegetarian. He loves new age music. He thinks that peace is our "only" weapon of choice. How am I being obnoxious? Kucinich walked right out of central casting for a man stuck in the sixties running for president in the 21st century.

He thinks that peace is our "only" weapon of choice

No he does not. He has stated, repeatedly, that the US should defend itself when attacked and faced with a plausable threat. He has ALSO stated that we should always keep the principle of peace at the forefront of our dialogue with the international community.

Unfortunately you insist on spreading lies and misinformation about the only candidate who voted AGAINST the Patriot Act and the IWR, and who has put forth bills for a cabinet-level Department of Peace-- an idea that so "radical" that even George Washington supported the concept.

Maybe you should learn more about Dennis Kucinich and his platform before spread such flagrant misinformation about him.

Did the hypno-mojo he pulled on you wear off and you suddenly remembered he stole your sweetheart in 1979? What?

stacks up in the grand scheme of things. After that conclusion...I admit I'm at a loss about any other meaning to be drawn from this poll. I'll be interested in tracking the results as we go along.

Today is still a day of grief for a lot of people on the board, so the results will change after the next set of elections, no doubt.

62. I have no great love for Kerry
But Kerry obviously has the best chance of beating Bush in November.

The only reason Edwards is getting so much positive free media is because the Repubs know he'd be an easier target. He just hasn't got the experience to lead the nation (not that Bush does, but way too many people won't see it that way). The Repubs would back Kucinich or Sharpton if they thought either had a prayer of winning the nomination, but Republicans are realists. Unlike a lot of people voting in this poll.

My candidate is out of the race, but I'll stand for him in our state caucus in March anyway. Then it'll be Kerry all the way, with the fervent hope he's smart enough to pick the right VP.

Of course, if it turns out Edwards is the nominee, I'll vote for him, for all that it'll matter. ABB

68. 3-way race?
Kucinich does not have a CHANCE of winning at this point (or at any other point, for that matter) -- it is unreasonable to expect him to do anything

72. perhaps
that mite be truth, except this poll definitely gives you an idea of where all the internet dean supporters are going, so it should be a cause of alarm to the other people running, but thats okay. Id rather them just ignore it and let kucinich be the 2nd person in the 'two man race' that isnt even a real one, only a media produced one.
