Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 02:56 AM by kad7777
I found this post from independencerevolution on the DesMoines Register website and wanted to share it.

Posted: Mon Oct 01, 2007 10:04 pm Post subject: Biden or Bust

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is this unfortunate extreme in the political atmosphere today which drowns out candidates of great merit and substance for those who are in the fold of pop culture and celebrity status. Who do we want as our figurehead in times like these, with religious radicals, defunct trade policies, general distrust in goverment, and global elites crushing the common man...?
I tell you, all of America and our history is in the hands of you Iowans. Do not fall prey to the hype of the media and money machines behind Obama and Clinton. Certainly, do not fall so ignorantly as to support Richardson, Gravel, or Kucinich. Edwards may be a decent man, but there is no one more solid, more presidential, more qualified or ready than Joe Biden.
I am an average citizen from your neighbor state, Illinois, begging you to motivate your communities and file in unity behind this man. We need a leader of such great character and intelligence. We need a President so experienced and untainted. This is not a time for novelties: first woman, first African-American, first Morman, first Hispanic or first Italian. This is the time to get serious and put the best in the position. The best that can be offered this day from the Democrats is Senator Joe Biden.
Politics based on popularity and money over the last 20 years have gotten us to this point. We can't afford another mediocre administration. We need another FDR, JFK, Ronald Reagan. We need someone that all citizens could be proud to call their President.
C'mon, people of Iowa, get this one right! Get Joe Biden out in front and get him on a roll to the White House!

2. The Biden Dungeon?
Does it offend anyone's sensibilities being in GDP? After all, he is running for president as well.

C'mon...

4. Why? Ive seen plenty of posts that say that one of the top 3 are the greatest thing since sliced
bread - why not Biden. I am not for Biden - I am undecided - but why not make a case for your candidate (preferably) or list Biden negatives. This does belong here because I doubt many of us undecided people are reading all the supporters groups.

6. For the record, this thread is absoutely fine here
It's about a current political event, and fine for GD.

DU Groups for particular candidates are just places where supporters can discuss the candidate without having to engage in argument with those who do not support them. Calling them a 'Dungeon' is also somewhat insulting to the supporters. Please don't use that term.

8. Biden Has Zero Chance Of Being Elected Presidet IMHO
But his supporters deserve to be treated with respect as do all of the supporters of the Democratic candidates for president...

3. Something very solid and purposeful and participatory about

the newspaper blogs. Like old-fashioned letters to the editor, they open the cyberdoors to anybody with an opinion, and once in a while, a well-thought-out opinion comes along.

I don't agree with every point this blog entry from Des Moines offers up, feeling that the virtues of other Democratic candidates exceed the blogger's assessments.

But I feel the praise for Biden is earned and understandable. The REGISTER is the big circulation paper in Iowa. an essential accoutrement over many a breakfast table. It endorsed John Edwards in the 04 primary. A lot of Iowa people read it for any number of good reasons. I imagine political circles are already buzzing with political energy for the upcoming caucuses in January. And why not -- they're first in line.

A good number (and a growing number) of Democrats of various stripes say to me in conversations that they expect Joe Biden will be in the thick of the race by the end of this fall.

I think that's a pretty keen observation.

Good post, kad7777.

13. I am not a Biden supporter...
although to be fair, he's one of the few candidates catching my interest more often these days. I've been saying for weeks now that Biden will do well in Iowa. Most of the DU'ers on the Iowa forum agree too. People are pretty quick to dismiss him but let me say, there's an awful lot of Iowans that he appeals to. Some may feel he has no chance, but I say keep your eye on him.

7. Thanks - good post
If the American people pick a media driven candidate, they will be complaining again in a few years, oblivious to their part in the situation. If people keep buying the hype, they are bound to be disappointed later.
