Give it up for Ben Chandler
we won an election! I hope this is a sign that our primary process registered enough new voters to get back the congress.

Hopefully winning a seat in the Kentucky will dispell some of the Democrats can't win down South arguments we always hear.

1. As Josh Marshall pointed out
...Chandler's win is in part a triumph of Internet fundraising. Us Clarkites played a role; even after Clark left the race, the campaign asked us to donate to Chandler (who'd endorsed Clark). Liberal bloggers like Marshall helped fundraise too.

3. Indeed!
Even though Chandler had oodles of name recognition (he comes from one of Kentucky's more prominent political families and has a former MLB commissioner in his family tree...) from his time as AG, it is very, very heartening for those of us here in the South (and those opposing the Republican social storm troopers elsewhere) to see a Democrat take it to a Republican in a state where a few months ago the Republicans just couldn't schmaltz enough over their win of the Governor's mansion.

I'm not ready to put this up there with Doolittle bombing Tokyo (that would be a Democrat winning Zell Miller's Senate seat), but it is a wonderful boost to all of us and a great message to the "Solid South" Republicans and pundits that the South ain't so solid.

4. This really is great news
And a bright spot in what was a rather unsatisfying night for me. Chandler did a fair amount of fundraising through the blogosphere. I gave some through Atrios' link.

TAKE THAT YOU REPUKE BASTARDS!

7. As a Kentuckian
As a kentuckian i can say this is a great win for the democrats, but you hafta remmeber he still hasta defend this seat later this year!
it isnt over yet ;)

Hopefully with the drastic change of our governor to a rethuglican, we can drastically change our senators and reps to Democrats ;)

We would be taking Ole Mitch down this year if our governor could have kept his penis in his pants!
darnit!
