Fascinating article about a Clinton-Obama icket
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 07:18 AM by Perky
A very telling piece that harkens back to Dukakis and Jackso in 108 and some of the reason they will not pick each other in '08

So why wouldn’t Hillary put Obama on the ticket?

There are two unbreakable rules for picking a running mate: Never pick anybody who might overshadow the top of the ticket, and never pick anybody you cannot completely control.

So Obama might be eliminated on both counts.

Then there is the Rule of Firsts. The Clinton campaign does not want to force too many “firsts” on the American electorate.

Electing the first woman president will be challenge enough. Electing the first woman president and first African-American vice president at the same time? Forget it; they don’t need that kind of problem. (The same reasoning might prevent New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who is Hispanic, from getting the vice presidential nod.)

Does this mean that only white males need apply to become Hillary’s running mate? Probably.

Which is why Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, former Gov. Tom Vilsack of Iowa, Gov. Ted Strickland of Ohio, Sen. James Webb of Virginia, and even former Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri are all having their names tossed around.

Obama has a solution to this problem: He could win the nomination.
And then he could tell Hillary why it might be too risky to have a woman on the ticket.

I have been saying this about a Obama in the VP spot all along. Although I think he would never be the type of VP you could not control.

At any rate there is enough in this article to start about six different threads.

1. Hillary needs a VP as popular as she is..
At this point in time, Obama would be a drag on the ticket.

Initially, my picks would be Clark or Bayh.

2. Hillary is not nearly as popular as Obama; and don't show me some fucking poll.
Your love for your boss is getting embarrassing.

4. Your denial and support of a not ready for prime time contender...is embarrassing..
Think about it. If Obama doesn't have the wherewithal to run a decent campaign; how could he ever hope to run the Top Job in the country? It's not gonna happen. Let's see how many mistakes he makes in the debate tonight, shall we? Your loyalty is admirable, barely.

7. Funds don't necessarily translate into votes... as the polls reflect
But if it makes you feel better to think it....

10. No, but it does mean he's running a descent campaign - like you fail to admit.

9. Uh, Obama is bringing in more money from more supporters than your "perfect" candidate, and...
a close second (and gaining) behind yours in the polls. She's has years of knowledge of how to campaign, and this is a first time for him. I think he's doing just fine.

Okay, let's see how many mistakes she makes. I do know that he has never booed in any of the debates.

12. Bingo.
I thought Kerry or Gore should have picked Graham from Florida for the same reason. Gore would definately have won the state, same with Kerry.

13. Bob Graham Was More Popular Than Bill Nelson
He was a two term governor and three term senator...

I do think Nelson could make the difference in Florida...
