2. Probably a pretty good map
with generic average Republican candidate versus generic average Democratic candidate in an average year.

My thinking is this is far from an average year though, and even those Republican base states are probably showing some cracks in them this cycle.

3. I think that's way, way, way off. There's a sea change happening
right now. I don't care what's going on with the Dems in Congress right now, the change is happening to the people! We've all had ENOUGH.

We are getting killed by NAFTA and Bush economics.

11. Edwards and Kucinich really hit hard on jobs and NAFTA.
I don't hear the same passion from the others, including the frontrunner.

Economically, it might end up being tweedle dee and tweedle dum. I'm not sure that folks will really turn out for that.

Really, I do wonder about some sort of third party economic populist campaign.

5. Polls show Hillary leading in WV, VA, KY, AR, and AL
Yet all of these are shown as red states?

10. While I am glad to see that there are polls showing those states as competitive
I'd have to question the methodology of any poll showing *any* Democrat winning Alabama. That seems about as likely as a Republican winning Massachusetts. Actually, it's probably even less believable.

13. When it comes down to election day, I doubt AL will go dem
But I think the fact that several polls show Hillary doing very well in several states Gore and Kerry didn't even touch bodes well for us and shows that the map the OP linked to isn't based on anything close to reality (it's based on "conventional wisdom" circa 2002).

6. Whatever
I hope that something positive happens before your currency goes completely down the tubes. In the event that should happen it will just mean you should've done something sooner. If the oil trade switches out of petrodollars you are effectively screwed forever.

But I don't think conventional wisdom would have suggested the can of whoopass we opened up on the GOOPERS in 2006...

9. Seems pretty reasonable
The good thing for the Dems is that more of the states that aren't given to one party or the other on this map have gone D by narrow margins in the last few elections. We just have to hold on to those and pick up a handful of others (or just one or two more) to break 270. The R's may be winning more states with wider margins, but many of the important swings have stayed out of their hands, and hopefully will continue to in the forthcoming election.

is red, and because TX & WY were so mortified by the job President Cheney & Vice President Bush did, in a stunning move turned blue. It's a fucking LANDSLIDE for the democratic nominee, Al Gore!
