The chairman of the California Legislature's black caucus broke Tuesday with most other members of the group and endorsed New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for president.
Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, D-Compton, said he was impressed with the answers Clinton gave to questions about job creation, education, economic development and public safety when she attended an event in his district.
"The answers Sen. Clinton provided and the connection she was able to make with the audience convinced me that Sen. Hillary Clinton is the candidate with the strength and experience to make the changes our communities need and want," Dymally said in a statement.
The eight-member caucus announced last week that it had voted to endorse one of Clinton's rivals for the Democratic nomination, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, although the vote wasn't unanimous.
One other caucus member, Assemblyman Sandre Swanson, D-Alameda, has also endorsed Clinton.
