A couple of random thoughts on the Edwards showing in WI--
WI turned out about 42% of the voters. That is a very high number, about 2x the number that came out in 2000. I'll bet anything they were overwhelmingly pissed off Democrats. In many places, the primary race was the only thing of significance on the ballot. That was true for me, for instance. I had only one mark to make on my ballot (Dean, in case you care), and then I was ready to drop it in the box. I don't think a whole lot of Republicans cared enough to go out & cast spoiler votes, expecially when there were no obvious spoiler candidates. I do know of some RW types who voted for Dean because they thought he was the weakest against Bush. Overall, I don't think the Republican crossover effect was a significant factor.

A whole lot of Wisconsinites are really pissed off about NAFTA, and most of them know Kerry voted for it, while Edwards was campaigning against Kerry's support for it. NAFTA had a major impact on the agriculture & industry that form the basis of the state economy.
