Biden Aids Local Democrats and Many Return the Favor

Delaware Democrat Sen. Joseph R. Biden leads all the Democratic presidential contenders in using his leadership political action committee to support local and non-federal Democratic officials and committees around the country during 2007. And many of the politicians have returned the favor by endorsing his candidacy.

The latest endorsement from an elected official who received help from Biden came Thursday when Iowa House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a Democrat, endorsed Biden for his presidential campaign. Biden’s leadership political action committee contributed $5,000 to McCarthy’s election committee in June, according to FEC filings.

Of the eight Iowa state legislators who have endorsed Biden, three have received contributions to their election committees in the first six months of 2007 from Biden’s PAC, Unite Our States. In addition to McCarthy, the PAC contributed $2,500 to Democrat state Rep. Jim Lykam and $1,000 to state Sen. Joe Seng.

All told, Biden’s PAC has spent more than $47,000 on electioneering disbursements this cycle, and all but one of his donations have been made to candidates and parties based in the pivotal primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina.
