1. CNN just had a graphic with Edwards in the lead
This projection looks a bit premature to me.

2. not necessarily
it has to do with the exit polling, WHICH areas are reporting their numbers and which areas still haven't.

4. yes, but i still wish they would not declare winner
they see their numbers so far as accurate so assume the other exit poll numbers are accurate also and basing it on that. i know it's scientific, but i still wish with races this close they would not declare the winner yet.

7. why does it matter?
the polls are closed, it will have no effect on the outcome. If they're wrong, they have to eat crow.

But I can say with 99% certainty they're not wrong.

5. No. They called FL. for Gore (correctly)
exit polling is pretty good. Kerry must eventually be headed to a full 2 or 3 % victory.

9. exactly
exit polling (as well as other types of polling) really *IS* a lot more reliable than a lot of people here would like to admit.

6. That was a funny little blooper
Wolf Blitzer is on the screen talking about how it's "too close to call" and then they show a graphic projecting Kerry as the winner, and Blitzer obviously had no idea that they'd decided to project Kerry as the winner.

This is why live TV is fun sometimes, I guess.

10. Clark has gotten almost
3500 votes, what does that tell me. He will do well as a VP candidate, he can attract swing and independent.

8. Projections are based on exit polling, not returns.
MSNBC has also projected Kerry the winner.
