I happen to see from my first hand experiences (here in TX) that Edwards is more favorable among independent (and republican) voters.

voted for Kerry and Edwards. The Kerry voter leans Republican (he's a fundamentalist Christian who thinks * is full of crap this time around); the Edwards voter is your classic swing voter, philisophically. (He's also 24 and apathetic about politics in general.)
