Wow! Katie Couric says that there is "Real Progress" In Iraq
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 10:35 PM by zulchzulu
Who would have thought Couric would have glowing reviews of the progress in Iraq that go against all other reports? What a surprise!

From the site:

"We hear so much about things going bad, but real progress has been made there in terms of security and stability," Couric said Tuesday. "I mean, obviously, infrastructure problems abound, but Sunnis and U.S. forces are working together. They banded together because they had a common enemy: al Qaeda."

(snip)

"The face of Satan was here in Fallujah, and I'm absolutely convinced that that was true," said Marine Lt. Col. Gareth Brandl.

(snip)

Now Fallujah is "considered a real role model of something working right in Iraq," Couric said.

Then there's this:

Katie Couric's one-year anniversary as anchor of "CBS Evening News" finds her in Iraq and Syria reporting from the front lines and not answering questions about how poorly the newscast has been doing in the ratings since she started.

Couric's surprise trip to Iraq was planned in absolute secrecy but timed a week ahead of the report U.S. Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker will give on the progress of the war. Couric scored an interview with President Bush on his surprise trip to Iraq over the Labor Day Weekend.

Couric's stint at "CBS Evening News" started with promise, a new approach to the traditional newscast that the network hoped would bring in and keep the millions of viewers who have turned away from the evening newscasts. But it has turned into a $15 million-a-year disappointment so far for CBS, which has found itself remaining in third place even with the former morning star in the anchor chair.

Do you think she knew in advance that Chickenhawk Chimpy was going to be there? Murrow must be rolling in his grave...

Even Wolf Blitzer questions the Betray-Us Pentagonese dribble:

On edit:

What a great photo! :puke:

This seems like a more accurate report about Fallujah...

2. Yea what she didn't say was the stores that were open in the

Yea...things are going as well as they are going in the Gulf Coast....

3. Almost five years of combat, and there's a little bit of military "progress" in
some select areas, which may or may not be related to anything WE did, yet they're gonna proudly brandish it like a trophy. We won WW2, on two major fronts, in 4 years, and went home and started the baby boom in less time than it took to make the slightest dent in violence and chaos, at maximum troop capacity, against no real army, in Iraq. This is INSANE!

6. Could someone please set up a debate between Katie Couric and Randi Rhodes?
It would be priceless to see Katie corporate whore Couric being eaten alive by a no-strings-attached real politically savvy non-chicken-hawk woman.

8. Give Carrot Top a platoon of soldiers in Hell and he'd say it was fine
Platoon - 16 to 44 soldiers

Imagine that kind of protection ANYWHERE in the World where it's dangerous and you'd say you're seeing "progress"...

10. I heard some promos
About her trip BEFORE she even went and they were promising to tell the story of what's going right in Iraq. Well, all she did is "fill the order."

That's "journalism in the year 2007" for you.

Pitiful.

11. Katie my sweetness. There isn't going to be "real progress" in Iraq until
a new, Democratic, U.S. president is elected in 2008 and serves as global catalyst for a vast change in the way this powerful country treats much less powerful countries.

And in the meantime don't look for me watching your damn newscast each evening. If I want to be fibbed to, I'll give Colin Powell a call.

Or Ari Fleischer.

Or Don Rumsfeld.

Or Tommy Franks.

Or Dick Cheney.

Or Alberto Gonzales.

Or John Bolton.

Or Bill Kristol.

etc.

etc.

etc.

etc.

etc.

etc.

21. WOW!!! You mean she just came out and said this? She didn't have to get back with us later?
COURIC: Hey, wait a second. Democrats took — Democrats took money from Abramoff too, Mr. Dean.

DEAN: That is absolutely false. That did not happen. Not one dime of money from Jack Abramoff went to any Democrat at any time.

COURIC: Let me just tell you — According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Abramoff and his associates gave $3 million to Republicans and $1.5 million to Democrats, including Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid.

DEAN: Not one dime of Jack Abramoff money ever went to any Democrat. We can show you the FEC reports, we’d be very happy to do it. There’s a lot of stuff in the press that the Republican National Committee’s been spinning that this is a bipartisan scandal. It is a Republican-financed scandal. Not one dime of money from Jack Abramoff ever went to any Democrat, not one dime.

COURIC: Well, we’ll obviously have to look into that and clarify that for our viewers at a later date. Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Mr. Dean, Governor Dean, thanks so much for talking with us.

DEAN: Thanks very much.

Think Progress

...So she just came right out and said that there is "Real Progress" In Iraq without having to look into it and clarifying it later for her viewers? I'm impressed!

Redstone supported Bush in 2004.

24. CBS's ratings are in the toilet, so they're trying for the Faux News demographic
Edited on Wed Sep-05-07 08:54 PM by Azathoth
They're not even being original; they're just resurrecting the old "But what about all the good things that are happening in Iraq?" mantra. Violence drops temporarily in one area, or one insurgent faction switches sides to further their own self-interest, and suddenly there is "real progress." It's probably just a matter of time before they start "balancing" all their coverage, ie. every report of a catastrophic car bomb will be followed by a story about US soldiers donating pencils and calculators to an elementary school in one of the southern provinces. That way, people will get both sides of the story. :sarcasm:

Let her tag along with a real journalist like Ware for awhile and lets see what she says. Her thing was like McCain going to the market with hundreds of troops. Lets see her go with just a small 3 man crew out and about and then lets hear back from her, if she survives that is
