Edwards run
For those who have really know about the primaries...

Can Edwards still do it? I have supported Dean but feel like his time has passed and just don't see how he can pull it out now. What about Edwards? I have not been enthusiastic for Kerry (though I would happily vote for him in Nov. if he is our nominee). Edwards looks promising but I am afraid it is too late.

What does a comeback for Edwards look like?

3. A close second wouldn't hurt, if a win isn't in the cards.
:)

6. That would be dynamite
It would blow the campaign wide open, but it would be at variance with the last polls.

However, JRE has done better than the last polls showed in recent primaries. And he might get a lot of independent and Republican votes in the open WI primary. Still, a win is just too much to expect.

Then, there's a whole two weeks til Super Tuesday, and there may not be enough money to get the message out, but if the media cooperate (more appearances on Late Night and the Tonight Show for example) he may still break through.

But I'm not betting on it.

4. I think he's the only one who can do it besides Kerry right now.
A comeback for Edwards means doing well today, raising a ton of money before March 2, and then winning there 60:40, and everything afterwards by increasing margins.

8. Edwards will run out of money...
Dean and Kerry are the only ones who can fight against Bush and all his $$$$$$ By accepting matching funds, Edwards has in essence forfeited the general election in hopes of winning the primary. He can only spend 45M PERIOD until after the convention. Bush will be spending hundreds of millions to destroy him.

I like John Edwards and think he would be an acceptable candidate but his choice to to accept campaign financing closed the door for him in my eyes.

9. Edwards would not seal up the nomination until late...
...since Kerry has a big lead now, I can't see Edwards getting a majority of delegates until late April or May, and it might mean we are headed toward a brokered convention.

If and Edwards/Kerry battle is drawn out, Bush will have to spend money criticizing both candidates while the Democrats are still grabbing the headlines and bashing Bush.

10. Edwards is creating an issue that will hurt Bush by staying public.
He'll get all the money any Dem would get in donations, and he'll still be able to be the voice for the average American.

Can you imagine ultra-wealthy Kerry vs super-wealthy Bush slugging it out in a no-dollars-barred fest?

That's going to turn off a lot of working class voters.

5. I'm with you on that one. Same thing running thru my mind right now
before I head for the polls. Edwards got pretty good press here locally (Milw). I know of others leaning toward him now. AFL-CIO pissed the guys off at hubbys shop as well.

7. He needs to have a strong second today
If so, and if Dean drops, he's A STORY, and America loves a story.

He doesn't need to win in Wisconsin.
