Fred Thompson Just Called to Say He's Running

Hollywood Fred Thompson, the hideous old man whom Americans have seen on TV and therefore will surely vote for, is going to stop not-not-running for president and start running for president, according to the Post. He will announce his candidacy at 4 p.m. today, via conference call. That’s right, the grand announcement is happening on a conference call, because apparently an Instant Messenger Away Status Update was considered “too flashy.”

So, in a few short hours, 800-1,000 lucky Republicans will get to barely hear Fred’s gravelly voice babble something about being our next president and how Michael Moore is fat. Also at 4 will be another conference call with “Top Donors.” Fred will be appearing on both. That’s right, two simultaneous phone calls will herald the start of the unstoppable Thompson ‘08 juggernaut.

Then he’s going to go on Leno to cement his status as most unpleasant person we can think of at the moment.

Now he can finally start not raising enough money and firing staffers every week! That will certainly be exciting.

1. All I've heard from Thompson is that he wants to ammend the constitution to ban gay marriage.
Making one of the stupidest things Bush tried to do a top priority. If this guy gets in I am leaving th country.

3. If that's his top priority
He's not going to get very far, but maybe he'll screw it up for Romney, who used to support gay rights until he decided NOT to, when his state courts made it legal in Mass for folks to have same-sex marriages... then all of a sudden he became a point man for bigots.

2. Well, the only GOOD thing I can say about this...
Is that it will SUCK some support out of Front-runner Romney, and that's not a bad thing, now, is it?
All the red-necks and for Reagan accolites in Iowa and NH will vote for this washed-up Senator who thinks work is a four-letter word.

5. He's wasting everyone's time
Does anyone even know why he's running and wants to be president? He still hasn't said.

He didn't enjoy being a senator. What makes this lumox believe he'll enjoy being president anymore?

6. Sorry, Fred, but it's going to be a two-man race between Rudy and Mittens.
But thanks for the side show. Hope you didn't rip up any network contracts.

11. Well, WALKING, actually. Really, it's more of a stroll, possibly working up to a lope or a shamble
Don't think the big fella's got more than perhaps a slow trot in him; perhaps some fartlings.

It's all such work, you know.

Damn.

At least he hears the gig's got a guaranteed month-long vacation every year and lots of weekend getaways...

He'll make a brief comment or two after this weekend's vacation, and then it'll be official.
