Bush: Gonzales' 'good name dragged through the mud'

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush on Monday said he reluctantly accepted the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose "good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons."

After months of standing by his top prosecutor and "close friend," Bush spoke briefly in Texas to praise Gonzales, saying the attorney general endured "unfair treatment that has created harmful distraction at the Justice Department. "Bush said it's "sad that we live in a time when a talented and honorable person" is impeded "from doing important work."

<<snip>>

Gonzales described public service as "honorable and noble" and thanked Bush for his friendship.

Some senior administration officials floated Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff as a possible replacement, but others waved CNN away from Chertoff, saying that his nomination could run into problems because of his role during Hurricane Katrina.

A congressional source familiar with deliberations about Gonzales' replacement told CNN that the successor will not be Chertoff and that senior administration officials are "playing you guys," referring to the media.

4. Where was his good name went he went to a sick Ashcroft
and tried to convince him to break the law?
Gonzo was nothing more than a political hack, willing to do the grunt work of un-doing the constitution and undermining the Republic.
What spin, bullshit, unmitigated gall to make such a statement "good name" - but then again, considering the source - it's nothing unusual.

5. after Gonzolaws dragged a bunch of Federal Prosecutors good names through
the mud for political purposes of disenfranchising Democratic voters to say nothing of dragging a bunch of innocents through the torture chambers for political purposes.

Cry me a river for enough mud to drag more scumbags through.

7. This is GOP speak for "you caught us with our hands in the till."
I've heard many GOPers whining in the past day or two about Gonzalez and the mud he was allegedly dragged through. Still doesn't lessen or discount the fact he's a ****ing liar and criminal! And, not to mention, a toady for the Bushistas...

Yet, the Corporate Media has been making this guy's judgment sound like some kind of "gray area" in judicial interpretation. Say, Media Whores!--what's "gray" about torture, suspension of habeas corpus, illegal spying on Americans, or politicizing a federal department?
