Mia Farrow's exclusive dispatch: I am a witness to Darfur's suffering
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/africa/article2898438.ece

My first visit to Darfur was in 2004. It changed the way I needed to live my life. I have just returned from my seventh trip to the region. I don't think I have the words to adequately represent what I have seen and heard there.

Incomprehensibly, it has now been more than four years since the killing began. Some experts believe half a million human beings have died thus far. Others bicker about the exact death toll - as if it makes a shred of difference to how we must respond.

1. I have incredible respect for Mia Farrow. She's an amazing person. She,
as well as Audrey Hepburn when she was alive, are women who spent decades trying to help the most defenseless and poor on this planet. They left their pampered lives, their beautiful homes, their fame and all the red carpet crap that goes along with it, and waded right into the muck and the mire of corrupt governments, abysmal poverty and deprivation, the danger of going into a war zone to defend and try to aid those that are most defenseless. They have been faithful champions of those that the rest of us try to pretend don't exist. Mia Farrow is the original, the person that Angelina Jolie (who is a wonderful woman in her own right) tries to emulate.

These women put us ALL to shame.

3. Not as fun as trashing Dem candidates but
far more important. Perhaps some more DUers can tear themselves away from the bashfests and take a look at this.

I like to think this sort of thing matters to my fellow Dems.

Julie--wishful thinker
