Vast army of 'Hillary haters' has claws out - Chicago Tribune
Vast army of 'Hillary haters' has claws out
By Jill Zuckman | Tribune national correspondent
August 26, 2007

DALLAS
- Richard Collins, a wealthy Texas philanthropist, businessman and political aficionado, heaps praise on the woman he has set out to destroy, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).

"She looks like a winner," said Collins, sitting in his high-rise office with sweeping views of the city. "She's run a good campaign, very consistent, no mistakes."

But make no mistake about it: Collins is just one in a vast army of professional "Hillary haters" who are banking on Clinton becoming the Democratic nominee. Like the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth in the 2004 election who denigrated John Kerry's military service in Vietnam, Collins and others are searching for just the thing that will crystallize the way voters think and feel about her.

And not in a good way.

3. But they can't do that!
She's unassailable! I'm told that here every day!

"Richard Collins, a wealthy Texas philanthropist, businessman and political aficionado, heaps praise on the woman he has set out to destroy, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.)."

They praise her as they prepare to destroy her.

They've been preparing to fight her since before she planned to run.

11. My plan if Romney is the Repuke nominee: run a spoof ad
sponsored by "Dogs Against Romney," getting out the story of the dog he lashed to the roof of his car for a lengthy trip during a family vacation. Sub-text, if even friendly dogs hate Romney, who can like him??

something. I might try something like that.

6. How ironic
The "Hillary haters" meme is similar to the suggestion that those of us who opposed Dubya from the outset were nothing more than "Bush haters", the Democratic equivalent to the Republican "Clinton haters." The not-so-veiled implication is that our reaction is visceral instead of rational and that all people who oppose a Clinton candidacy drink from the same bitter well.

This fallacy of false equivalency provides a wonderfully insidious and effective means of silencing anyone who has legitimate objections to a Clinton candidacy. It's a powerful conversation-stopper.

For the record, I try not to hate anyone, the Dim Son and Darth Cheney included. I just want liberty and justice for all, not just for a handful of anti-democratic corporations and their shortsighted sycophants.

8. My primary vote is irrelevant
but based on your post would you not for Clinton if her opponent were any of the announced republicans? You may have legitimate reasons to oppose her candidacy, you may want liberty and justice for all, but would you vote against her if the alternative were giuliani, brownback, romney, whomever the hell else is in the running on the other side?

7. Kinda hard to find something new to sneer at.
They've been roasting her over a slow spit for over decade and she just gets stronger. And more cheerfully determined. That's why I can't help liking her. She has refused to be destroyed by anything.

9. I'm starting to consider the reverse psychology thing with Hillary.
Seriously.

There seems to be a bit more condemnation and intensity and vehemence than really necessary. The opposition has built her up to where I don't recognize the candidate whom they hate so much.

Could it be that as per the replies to the OP that we will go to her side to defend her as a reflex because we are so put off by their nonsense? And they expect us to? And thus, we will have selected our candidate for us by pulling our strings accordingly?

12. Clinton is npopular, but that's part of the political method that needs to be used.
The right wing has had their scream machine turned up to 11 about anything liberals do, and it doesn't crank up any higher. What we need to do at this point is to piss them off at every single turn instead of kindly compromising, so they will start to REALLY hate liberals. Then they will try to turn up their scream machine and fail, and it will be the same old shit they have been saying for ages, which everybody has gotten sick of. They have afforded us a historical opportunity to get away with pretty much whatever we want, by discrediting themselves with constant whining about our kindness. And Hillary, coupled with Obama (though Edwards may piss them off more...Are they more racist or classist?) will accomplsih this goal nicely.
