Rass

Clinton 40%
Obama 21%
Edwards 17%
Richardson 5%
Kucinich 3%

:bounce:

If this is accurate it will force the press to give him more coverage. Remember, Obama was at 32% and leading the Rass poll at the end of April. His decline began after the first debate...

2. I'd be OK with Obama or Edwards.
I definitely support Obama, but Edwards I could live with too. I would advise Obama to make a conscious effort to position himself as the most progressive "major candidate."

3. Where'd you get those numbers? I just went to Rasmussen's site and see:
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 12:57 PM by jenmito
Date 08/20/07

Clinton 41%

Obama 23%

Edwards 13%

It also says this:

Monday, August 27, 2007
Advertisment

Over the past week, Senator Barack Obama and former Senator John Edwards sharpened their attacks on Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton. The New York Senator provided some of the fodder herself with comments suggesting that some progress has been made in Iraq. Earlier in August, the former First Lady stumbled with a defense of lobbyists that didn’t resonate with anyone. Karl Rove even got in on the action by suggesting that Clinton is unelectable (a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 43% would definitely vote against Clinton in 2008. Forty-four percent (44%) said the same about Republican hopeful Mitt Romney).

...it is a different story. I presume you are not an Edwards fan given your avatar. Still, you can't see why Edwards--for the first time all year--closing into the margin of error with Obama for 2nd place (with a fraction of the media coverage BO has enjoyed) is not a big deal? Here is some context.

2/22 (first poll after BO joined the race)

Obama 26%
Edwards 13%
+13 for Obama

3/15

Obama 30%
Edwards 11%
+19 for Obama

4/26

Obama 32% (1st place)
Edwards 17%
+15 for Obama

5/31

Obama 26%
Edwards 15%
+11 for Obama

6/28

Obama 26%
Edwards 13%
+13 for Obama

7/29

Obama 24%
Edwards 14%
+10 for Obama

8/27

Obama 21%
Edwards 17%
+4 for Obama

while Obama's are at the same from Aug. 4th. Not good for Hillary. Good for Edwards.

17. well, they don't mean "nothing", they do encourage media attention for sure
as we have seen with the Obama v Clinton narrative that has been created. If Edwards can damage that through polling, then he can break the media narrative.

there is a lot of up and down movement in the polls but the trendlines are significant.

Edwards is getting more press these days and people like what they see.

More coverage will mean better polls. Go. Edwards. :woohoo:

33. No but it matches his peak numbers from April
Edwards received an artificial bounce in the polls following his wife's cancer announcement. The bounce lasted for a couple of weeks. I He did reach 17% after the announcement and more or less stayed there for a month. Prior to it he had fallen to 11%. His current number is the highest level of real support he has ever had in the Rassmussen poll.

37. Based on what? There is no formula for judgment
Obama supporters think their own definition of judgment, which is tailor-made for Obama (namely by ignoring every vote Obama had to actually vote on), is the only real definition.

Yes, but I also look at a lot of polls. Clinton wins FL, PA, and ties in OH; Obama loses all three. Obama flips no red states; Clinton flips Arkansas, Virginia, and Kentucky at least among red states and wins purple states. How is Obama going to get to 270 electoral votes?

39. Based on his speech against the war, which is a BIG DEAL...
I have yet to see Hillary OR Edwards show good judgement on anything-only political maneuvering.

Obama will flip SC and all the states Hillary would flip. Many Repub. voters would vote for Obama while only the RNC wants Hillary to be our nominee.

42. HRC is preferred on Iraq by 20+ points so most voters prefer her judgment on Iraq
Again, Obama fans are creating their own definition and declaring it to be the only true one. As usual, it is tailor-made to fit Obama. What about the Iraq votes Obama actually had to cast a vote on? He has been identical to Clinton on those.

Obama can't even win PA, which Kerry won. How is he going to win SC, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Virginia? If Obama has such great appeal why is he losing PA, FL, and OH while Clinton wins FL, PA and ties in OH? Show me one poll of Obama flipping a red state.

44. Nah. They just think she's more experienced because she's married to an ex-president.
I can't give you polls into the future by I predict Obama WILL be able to flip more states than Hillary can. As you know, the GOP wants her to be our nominee. Real Repub. voters prefer Obama because they're tired of the same ol' politics.

Watch the same thing happen to F. Thompson as people learn of his actual views, his warts and he ceases to merely be a blank screen onto which Republicans can project their own views onto.
