John Kerry is a (Tony) Blair Democrat.
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 01:26 PM by KurtNilsen
"It was a good night for the Blair Democrats in Iowa," said Will Marshall, president of the Progressive Policy Institute. By "Blair Democrats," Mr. Marshall was referring to those Democrats who voted for the Iraq war, and conveyed "a toughness and resolve to face down America's enemies," but who believe the Bush team has mismanaged the project.

So Edwards is included under the Blair Democrats label.

Do any of you have any views on the matter?

8. Friedman...
"Thomas L. Friedman
(Redirected from Thomas Friedman)

Thomas L. Friedman (born July 20, 1953) is an American journalist. He is known for being an advocate of globalization and formulated the subsequently invalidated McDonald's peace theory which stated that no one nations with McDonalds have gone to war with each other..."

16. Yes Tom Friedman is a huge liberal....
..but his stance on the war is most likely not a popular one at DU. He's got a Jewish background and (I think) a PhD on Mid-East relations or something. I would recommend his articles in the NY Times as "required reading" as his thinking basically shapes the political discussion for the next week.

He supports nation building as something which extremely liberal people like himself should support. He looks for solutions to Iraq, not merely assigning blame, which is why I am a HUGE fan of his.

18. Thanks....
I have read a lot of his stuff at the NYT for the last couple of years, but wasn't sure of his political (if any) orientation.

BTW, Did you see Tony Blair's speech to the Labour congress in 2001. I haven't felt so excited about politics since I joined the socialistic youth in high school. Internationalism is socialism. Isolationalism is Buchanan and the far right.

17. Yes, he is. He's also a Blair Democrat.
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 01:34 PM by RichM
That is to say, he's a liar, a warmonger, a propagandist, & an imperialist. He absolutely ADORES the US use of military force. He takes it for granted that anything the US does in the world is motivated by "good intentions" and synonomous with "virtue, and love of democracy."

19. Sorry to hear you think that. Here's a Pravda article for you.
"The American Way
02/13/2004 11:13
Finally, after more than three years of sycophantic worship of the corruptly appointed Bush dictatorship, some in the corporate-controlled media in America are beginning to question what more perceptive journalists had questioned years before: George W. Bush's so-called "military" record."

2. As anti-war as I am
I am sorry to say that with the current media and DLC situation...along with republican attacks and an idiot public who has been scared by herd tactics....no Democrat who voted against the war in Iraq would be elected president of the United States. I think Kerry and Edwards knew this. Most Dems who had no national aspirations voted against the war..( old senators and senators who are too liberal or controversial to run on a national ticket) most dems who could someday be a national candidate voted for the war.

12. Leave it to the "Democratic" representative of PNAC to use such a term.
Considering Blair is the dictator appeasing Neville Chamberlain of the 21st century, I wouldn't consider the term as flattering. However, it IS rather accurate for those who voted lock step with the Fraudministration's agenda.
