Lots of red meat here:
"Democrat John Kerry and Republican George W. Bush begin the 2004 presidential race locked in a statistical dead heat, with 46% saying they would vote for Kerry and 45% picking Bush, according to a new national poll conducted by the University of Connecticut. Two percent say they would vote for someone else, and only 6% are undecided....
What Makes Kerry ‘Most Electable’?Democrats were further queried about whether they thought Kerry is the most electable of the Democratic candidates. 84% agree that Kerry was most electable because he would do a better job on issues important to them; 81% agree that Kerry is more electable because he would make better decisions than Bush about where and when to use U.S. military forces around the world; 76% agree that Kerry is most electable because he is more honest and trustworthy than Bush.
70% of Democrats agree that Kerry is the most electable of the Democrats because he is more charismatic than Bush; 69% agree that he is most electable because Kerry is more intelligent than Bush, and 63% agree Kerry is the most electable of the Democratic candidates because of his decorated war record...."
The University of Connecticut Poll was conducted by telephone from February 12 through February 16, 2004 with a sample of 1,121 registered voters from across the nation. This press release also focuses on the 474 subset of voters who consider themselves to be Democrats of lean Democratic. Sampling error for the 1,121 voters nationally is +/-2.9%.
