Remembering Katrina - America and the World must never forget what Bush allowed to happen
Edited on Sat Aug-25-07 03:46 PM by percussivemadness
Hi,

2 years after the heartbreaking events in the aftermath of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, I thought I would share this with you.

http://www.nolaaid.com or http://nola.cf.huffingtonpost.com/ (quicker load)

Using the Unlock The Doors version of Riders on the Storm by The Doors, the guys who produced We Will Not Be Silenced rallied clubbers from around the globe to raise 250k for the victims of Katrina.

Two years later, the movie remains in place, to remind the world of what happened when Katrina struck New Orleans.

Peace

4. Thanks for the reminder. Yes neocons must learn somehow that
societies ties are not to be fooled with and when a storm hits a city - you throw everything you got to help desperate citizens out.

10. Welcome to DU
Nobody blames Katrina on Bush. However:

When Katrina hit, it took Bush days to direct a person to chair a task force to coordinate the relief efforts. It took days for the National Guard to appear on the scene. Despite FEMA having 500 buses on standby on the day of the storm, ready to be deployed, it took almost a week to get those buses to the Convention Center in New Orleans to begin evacuations there.

We didn't need to hear from Brownie that FEMA didn't want to help with the actual relief efforts because it would "maximize their potential for failure."

It's not a "natural disaster" that FEMA delivered trailers to peoples' yards, and left them locked because they decided they didn't want people having access to them - after they were delivered.

It wasn't a natural disaster that the government contracted garbage removal to AshBritt’s at $23 per cubic yard, who subcontracted it to C&B Enterprises, who subcontracted it to Amlee Transportation, who subcontracted it to Chris Hessler Inc, who subcontracted it to Les Nirdlinger for $3 per cubic yard, providing a 666% markup for services for corporate profit, while providing minimum garbage removal services to the residents when they needed it.

It wasn't a natural disaster that ice was hauled over the country and turned away, that water and other relief supplies were turned away, or that I stood and saw private donations of food rotting behind police barricades in minority neighborhoods because FEMA wouldn't allow them to be distributed 8 months after Katrina hit.

And it wasn't a natural disaster that rescuers were repeatedly turned away by Homeland Security when they tried to drive or boat into areas struck by Katrina. Red Cross was ordered not to deliver supplies to New Orleans. Five hundred privately owned water craft with a police escort, organized by a state senator, were blocked from entering flooded areas. Multiple sheriff’s deputies from Virginia, with supplies and vehicles, were unable to infiltrate the Louisiana state border.

Let`s take your advice and "take emotion out of the equation and look at the facts.

Your words - my responses

"Louisiana is a cesspool of a state and always has been filled with the worst politicians in America and some of the laziest people on earth."

The above is a very subjective and emotional response, the emotion being dominated by hatred and ignorance...Facts are Louisiana is a state of the United States, irrespective of its "social" standing, therefore, it is entitled to the same treatment as any other state would get, say ummmmm, Florida, but then again, Louisiana didn`t fix an election and the president`s brother isn`t governor....

"They were told REPEATEDLY that the city faced destruction from flooding (and ALWAYS HAD since it's founding)."

And you are stating that it isn`t the federal govt`s responsibility to take care of its citizens and taxpayers? Interesting viewpoint. So is it the taxpayers responsibility to fund an illegal war?

"Oh that's right the city can't raise taxes cause most the tax money is paid out in WELFARE to the lazy idiots who won't get a job, so much for using it to help the city." -

A) Do you have actual figures to back this claim up? B) I thought welfare was a federal programme.

"Like most ahem "democrats" you'd rather throw money at the problem and then wonder where it went (in the most ill ran state in the 50) than what they truly need." -

Love this quote, can you explain what spending money you don`t have, i.e Bush`s illegal war in Iraq that has built up a national debt of 8 trillion dollars is called? Last time I looked, Bush was a Resluglican. Or are you saying, when a Reslug does it it doesn`t count?

"The Mayor well let's just call him an IDIOT"

Do the words "pot" , "kettle" and "black" mean anything to you? Probably not. Just remember, when you point a finger, 3 are pointing back at you.

"And by the way I LIVE IN LOUISIANA UNFORTUNATELY" -

I sincerely doubt that you do, judging by your clueless, stupid, misinformed and patently absurd post, I would argue you live in Bush`s head, because you display all the qualities of Bush`s brain.

Why don`t you run off and play with the traffic, the adults are having a grown up conversation here.

Peace

13. actually, I am sick to death of the Bushler Youth trolling DU
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 01:06 AM by percussivemadness
See above, Ronald whatever`s response.

Do you realise what message you are sending to the world? I thought that after 2 years, even the right wing Bushler Youth would see what is going on in their country, but they don`t.

The anger I feel now to Ronald`s post is quite high, but I thought Ronald may like to see what non-American`s thought of our response to Katrina. The following blog, posted on September 4th 2005, was cited by the BBC and a number of other European news outlets as being a wake up call to what the Bush administration was trying to do. I know the author is somewhat controversial on these boards, but this blog was read by millions worldwide, the Nolaaid website launched on the back of it.

Perhaps this will show you what Europeans think of the fascist right wing scum running America at the moment..I hope the mods will leave this response up, I have permission to post it...To Ronald and any other right wing trolls reading this thread, try understanding what this guy is saying, because if ever a piece of writing summed up the anger that is felt by the vast majority of people overseas to people like you and your beloved Fuhrer, Bush, this is it....

What Will It Take America?

As I watch the death and horror of NOLA unfolding, a question has remained at the forefront of my mind: "what will it take America"? Now I get asked by many of you to moderate my language, and for the large part I try, but what has happened in New Orleans has disgusted and angered me, so I am warning everyone, that no, I won`t moderate my language.

I won`t hold back on my anger. Bodies floating in the streets of New Orleans doesn`t seem to have an impact, maybe some raw, unedited language may do the trick. This is no time for bullshit sensibilities, people are fucking dying, babies are starving, bodies are rotting in the streets of New Orleans. If you are not offended by this alone, if you are not disgusted and angered to the point where you say "this regime needs to be removed, right now, today, and jailed for crimes against humanity", if you are not motivated to throw this murdering scum into prison, freeze all their assets under their Patriot Act, and then distribute their illegally gotten wealth to the victims of hurricane Katrina, wealth that has been stolen at the expense of 1000s of lives around the world, then quite frankly, you are as evil as they are.

Jesus Christ, I am English, these are not my countrymen dying in this horrific nightmare, how can I be so angry, so distressed, how can I see what is going on to the great nation of America and the American people, yet Americans don`t seem to get it? Did the world slip into a parallel universe where the demons are in control? Look into their eyes, these aren`t human beings running your country, there is no emotion, they have no soul.

People are dying. Babies are dying. People`s lives have been destroyed. People are being shot for simply trying to get food for their starving babies. They are looters apparently, disorderly civilians who should be observing "social decency". You filthy disgusting pigs, you fat bloated liars, you callous, inhuman, evil motherfuckers. These people are desperate. They are trying to save their families. There but for the grace of God go I, but I tell you what, if I was in their situation, and my baby was dying from hunger, in diapers that were 3 days old, and my wife was dying through dehydration and starvation, and all that stood between me and their survival was a fucking window in a Walmart, guess what, I would kick the fucking windows in and do exactly what those poor people are doing. Law and order? Fuck law and order. Do you understand, fuck law and order, fuck your bullshit social decency, fuck your bull shit laws, my family are dying, and I am going to save them and god help anyone who gets in my way. Jesus Christ, what has gone wrong with Americans? I turned on the radio on Wednesday, to hear a bunch of white middle class rednecks bitching about the price of oil and condemning the "looters". PEOPLE ARE FUCKING DYING FROM STARVATION AND DEHYDRATION IN AN AMERICAN CITY IN 2005. No political correctness can change this simple fact. PEOPLE ARE DYING.

"Noone could have known that the levees would burst". Yeah right, and noone could have known that 4 planes would have been used as missiles, noone could have known that Iraqis would rise up to defend their country in an illegal war, noone could have known that US soldiers and Iraqi citizens would die from Depleted Uranium, noone could have known that under manning the military in Iraq and sending them into a combat scene, ill equipped and without adequate armour, would result in 2000 deaths, and noone could have known that by giving disgusting tax cuts to the top 1% of people in America would have increased the budget deficit. Noone could have known that when a man`s family is at risk, he will do whatever it takes to protect them, and that includes smashing the windows of Walmart and stealing food, which by the way, as everyone seems to have forgotten, would be rotten by now anyways. When are the American people going to stand up and say we`ve had enough of these lies masquerading as excuses?.

I have sat here, an outside observer, and made the same statement over and over again, after every criminal act committed by this evil bunch of demons on the American people, namely "this will wake the American people up". An election stolen - "this will wake the American people up". 3000 dead in New York - "this will wake the American people up". 2000 US soldiers dead for a lie - "this will wake the American people up". 100,000 murdered by the Bush junta in Iraq - "this will wake the American people up". Poverty rises for the 5th consecutive time in America - "this will wake the American people up". I still wait. I still wait.

This was Bush`s comment about New Orleans - "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees," . Now read this - The storm hit Breton Sound with the fury of a nuclear warhead, pushing a deadly storm surge into Lake Pontchartrain. The water crept to the top of the massive berm that holds back the lake and then spilled over. Nearly 80 percent of New Orleans lies below sea level—more than eight feet below in places—so the water poured in. A liquid brown wall washed over the brick ranch homes of Gentilly, over the clapboard houses of the Ninth Ward, over the white-columned porches of the Garden District, until it raced through the bars and strip joints on Bourbon Street like the pale rider of the Apocalypse. As it reached 25 feet (eight meters) over parts of the city, people climbed onto roofs to escape it. Thousands drowned in the murky brew that was soon contaminated by sewage and industrial waste. Thousands more who survived the flood later perished from dehydration and disease as they waited to be rescued. It took two months to pump the city dry, and by then the Big Easy was buried under a blanket of putrid sediment, a million people were homeless, and 50,000 were dead.It was the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States..

Sounds like a report from a current news cast doesn`t it? Except it is from a piece by National Geographic from 11 months ago. II FUCKING MONTHS AGO. In 2001, FEMA warned the Bush junta that the biggest disaster that could happen in America was a hurricane hit on New Orleans. I knew on the Wednesday before the hurricane hit, that New Orleans was in Katrina`s sights, on Saturday night before the hurricane hit, Bush declared a State of Emergency in Mississippi and Louisiana. THE FUCKERS KNEW AND DID NOTHING ABOUT IT, and then they go on TV and lie, without any conscience, they lie. These are not people, they are demons, getting off on death and suffering.

Hey everything is ok now though right? The superdome was finally evacuated. America, you can go back to stuffing your faces on Labour day, the superdome was evacuated. Whoopee Fucking Doo. Lets have a fucking superdome party, and ignore the thousands of people still trapped in that festering sewer that New Orleans has become, lets ignore the dead people floating in the cesspit of death that New Orleans streets have become. Labour Day should have been declared a national day of mourning. No civilised society parties when people are dying in their country. Do you realise the message this is sending to the world? We don`t care about our own brothers and sisters. We don`t care about babies starving in the streets. Americans don`t care.

What does it take America? What is the event that makes you realise that your country is in the hands of demons, evil, heartless, disgusting pieces of filth, that will let your fellow citizens die in the streets of New Orleans? Do you honestly believe this won`t at some point happen to you? Are you that stupid and naive? Is it because 90% of the faces you see in New Orleans, wading through the putrid filth trying to find food and medicine for their babies are black? Is that it? Because you are white, you think it will never happen to you? You forget the lessons of history.

In 1938, Adolph Hitler annexed Austria. The world sat back and appeased him. It wasn`t going to happen to them, it was other people. Then in 1939, Hitler annexed Czechoslovakia. Europeans weren`t worried though, because it didn`t effect them, it was other people. Then in late 1939 Hitler annexed Poland. At that point, the world woke up, too late, and war against Hitler was declared, and for the next 6 years the world was at war. When it eventually ended, the results of appeasement and inaction were all too evident, with 60,000,000 people dead around the world, with the attempted genocide of the Jewish race and with over 250,000 Americans dying for Freedom and Democracy. My parents and grandparents brought me up to appreciate and recognise the sacrifices made by people around the world in World War 2. Those sacrifices are now today just a distant memory in a society consumed by greed and disinterest, a society that cares more about who will be the next American Idol than people dying in their streets. Now Americans sit back and hand over their freedom to the Bush junta, without a fight, and in doing so they denigrate the memories of those soldiers who died fighting in the fields of Flanders so that Europe would remain free, so that future generations of Americans would be able to live in a safe world.

What is going to be your Poland America? When do you stop appeasing this brutal murderous regime? What does it take? A thousand plus deaths in New Orleans obviously doesn`t matter does it? No, so long as you have your SUV`s and your obese lifestyles, you can turn a blind eye to what is going on in New Orleans today. Hell, with traitorous bastards like Hannity and Limbaugh, and whores of Satan like Coulter, you can phone in and even rationalise your disgusting apathy on air.

This blog is read by people from over 80 countries. I am asking everyone reading this, to kick the fuck off. Don`t wait, do it now, today. Not violently, I don`t advocate anything other non-violent protest. Whatever country you live in, email your media outlets and demand they get the truth about New Orleans. Demand that they cover it with brutal honesty. The people of the world need to be motivated in a way they were over the Tsunami. Bush cannot be allowed to hide this disaster of such magnitude. The real face of George Bush and his evil demonic scum masquerading as politicians in America needs to be exposed to the world, so the world can see, once and for all what a monster this man is. When the outrage from every civilised human being in every country reaches a crescendo, when the outcry becomes deafening, then maybe America will wake up.
