2. "I'm not dead yet..."
"I think I'll go for a walk..."

It's rare to see someone declared dead while they're still walking and talking. :(

8. Dean's fervent supporters know the end is coming too.
Dean's fervent supporters know the end is coming too.

Yes, the end of their affiliation with the DLC, the DNC and politics as usual.

9. Dean's crowds on primary eve
and throughout his Wisconsin campaign have been very good.

In Madison last night--1,200 people filled the Orpheum Theater compared to 500 who came out for Kerry when Clark endorsed him in Madison.

In Wausau yesterday Dean, Kerry, and Edwards each were in the city. 400 people came out for Dean and Kerry and 200 for Edwards according to Wausau papers.

In La Crosse yesterday, 500 attended a Dean town meeting.

In Stevens Point last week, Dean attracted 1,000

In Superior, near Duluth, MN--1,200 people attended.

At the campus of UW Green Bay, 650 people attended a rally last week for Dean and the campus Dems endorsed Dean--by the way here is an interesting story posted on Daily Kos about that:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/2/17/42637/9246

I honestly believe that the folks here in Wisconsin where I have been watching the campaign closely as I have worked for Dean are giving Dean a second look.

15. As much as it seems that Dean will not win the nomination...
...the actual convention is months away. Anything, and I mean anything could happen between now and then. The Alexandra Polier smear campaign taught us two things:

1) The repugs are up to their old tricks again and are willing to hit hard and hit early. This smear was a textbook repug tactic. And they released it early not to hurt him in the GE, but to cause finger-pointing and infighting among the Dems (during the primaries). Which brings me to:

2) A mere rumor can do so much damage - look how this board split up after the story first broke. With Drudge as the ONLY source, many Dean and Edwards supporters wanted and hoped the rumor was true (not ALL Dean & Edwards supporters, but quite a few), so their own candidates' stock would go up. I repeat, with Drudge as the only source. Rush, Hannity, et. al. were pleased with our reaction to it, I'm sure.

Anyhow, I think Dean has a right AND a responsibility to stay in the race up to the convention, if for any reason, to keep his message alive and to represent the 191+ delegates he has (he has the second-highest count so far, behind Kerry and more than Edwards). And, because of his second-place status, he should remain in should anything else happen to Kerry (rumor/dirty-trick-wise) before the convention.
