LITTLE ROCK - Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., raised about $650,000 Monday at fundraisers in Fayetteville and Little Rock, a consultant to her presidential campaign said Tuesday.
"We exceeded expectations. We had a big day," said Robert McLarty, consultant to Clinton's campaign in Arkansas.
McLarty said Clinton raised $200,000 at a luncheon at the home of Suzie Stephens and Jim Hatfield in Fayetteville, then raised $50,000 at a fundraiser at the Little Rock Zoo. She ended the evening with a reception at the home of Max Mehlburger and Kaki Hockersmith in Little Rock, where her campaign collected $400,000.
The former Arkansas first lady had expected to raise about $500,000 during her visit to the state, McLarty said.
Turnout at each event was between 250 and 300 people, McLarty estimated. At the reception Monday evening in Little Rock, nearly 100 people gave the maximum donation of $2,300, he said.

Before Monday, former Gov. Mike Huckabee's contributions in the state surpassed Clinton's, but in a single day Clinton raised more than the $552,287 Huckabee, a Republican, raised during the first half of the year.
