"Fiery" New Co-Host Joins RFK Jr. on Air America
Mr. “For the People” himself, John Morgan, is teaming up with Bobby Kennedy Jr. and Mike Papantonio as the new co-host of Ring of Fire, a weekly show on the Air America radio network.

Morgan, a Central Florida attorney, consumer advocate, entrepreneur and self-described “Democrat on strike,” made his debut on the show this weekend, replacing former co-host David Bender, who left the program in early August.

In a July 21 interview with Bender on Ring of Fire, Morgan had some strong words for Democratic party leaders: “I’m so disgusted with what’s going on,” Morgan said, adding that as a major fundraiser and Democratic donor, he will not be giving any more money to the party “until the Democratic leadership gets it right. I believe in the right to go on strike, and right now, I’m on strike!”

“Where is the principle?” Morgan asked the Democrats. “I mean, what is the Congresssional approval rating now, like 17%? That’s lower than the president! What the Democrats in Congress need to realize is that they were brought here as agents of change.

“The reason Obama is doing so well is because people desperately want change,” he said. “For these Senators and Representatives to think they were brought here for a different reason is just wrong. They were brought here to end the war.”

Morgan also issued a call to action to all “Good Democrats” across the nation: “When they call you asking for donations, asking you to do a fundraiser, I urge you to say, `not until you do the right thing‘. Tell them, `we are on strike.’

“Now that we (the Democrats) are in power,” Morgan explained, “remember that we can’t blame the Republicans anymore for not ending this war. The blood will now be put on our hands if we don’t do the right thing.

“And if they do take a stand, they will be doing what John F. Kennedy talked about years and years ago and showing us ”Profiles In Courage” for putting principle above politics.”

1. Well, that answers my question about "Why isn't David Bender on RoF anymore?"
I look forward to hearing the new co-host via Ring of Fire's podcasts available here:

2. Bender took a leave of absence
Not sure how long David will be away...but John Morgan seems like someone who will certainly keep the debate lively on ROF.

Of course, I'm very glad that they are bringing in another co-host, as I'm hoping to see Bobby take an 8-year "leave of absence" (in the White House) and would sure hate to see Pap have to do the show all by his lonesome...(grins);)

3. RFJK Jr- just another F'ing hypocrite
Sure he loves the environment as long as they do not put windmills 5 miles off the coast of his beloved nantucket island. You can barely see the things for god's sake from that far out. Daily show did a great job of exposing this hypocritic f'er and his uncle Ted.

If by any chance you might be interested in the facts (even tho' it seems you've clearly got your own personal grudge against the Kennedys), RFK Jr.'s opposition to the Cape Wind project *is* for environmental reasons. He details them here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/16/opinion/16kennedy.html?ex=1292389200&en=58e5dd67e381fd58&ei=5090&partner=rssuserla

RFK Jr. has always been opposed to privatizing the commons (taking land or water which by right belongs to the people and giving it to private companies to exploit for profit). Therefore it should come as no surprise that he opposes the Cape wind project.

btw, Bobby does not even live at the Kennedy compound off Cape Cod. He lives in NY and barely finds time to visit the family home in Hyannis, so I don't think he's all that worried about spoiling his view of Nantucket Sound. LOL.

5. Why would the daily show
take that angle then? They are one of the most truthful outlets of news out there. The companies could lease the land, of course I see them screwing the people like Exxon and other oil interests do. Hell, with bush and cheney, I am shocked they are not drilling Mt Rushmore.

I was surprised by the daily show story as well. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, although it looks like Ted is stopping it for selfish reasons. If not, that is great.

PS. I do not have a personal grudge against the Kennedys. One post about their hypocrisy and it is a personal grudge? I expect that behavior from the Bush family, not one of the most prominent Democratic families in america. The Daily Show story just got my dander up.

6. Good to hear you're keeping an open mind

I saw the Daily Show segment, too, and thought it was pretty funny. The only trouble is that all too often, people get their news from outlets like the Daily Show and Colbert, and while there is a lot of truth in much of what they do, people sometimes forget that it is satire.

Good political satire is intended to provoke, to make you think. Maybe even get a person interested enough to do their own research on a story and consider all sides before reaching a conclusion.

As for why the Daily Show took that particular approach to the story, I can't speak for Jon Stewart or his producers. It is fashionable at present for progressives to embrace *any* alternative source of power, such as a wind farm (RFK Jr. is a strong supporter of wind power), but often they do so without taking a close look at who is really behind the proposed alternative. Who benefits?

Let's face it, not every company out there who is trying to sell a desperate, outraged public alternative forms of energy has our best interests at heart. When a large private company wants to take control of public lands or water and exploit them for profit at the expense of the environment, we should examine their motives more closely before signing on.

Just because something is being sold to us as alternative energy does not necessarily mean that it is good. What troubles me is to see so many *environmentalists* giving Cape Wind and other dubious projects blind support, while ignoring, even ridiculing RFK Jr.'s valid concerns about how this will affect the environment. After all, Bobby has been fighting like hell to protect our public waterways for 25 years. It seems to be they could at least allow him to express his opposition to the Cape Wind project without instantly labeling him a hypocrite.

Had the Daily Show bothered to interview Mr. Kennedy for the Cape Wind piece, they would have presented a more balanced picture, allowing viewers to hear both sides of the debate. But, that would have turned it into a serious news story, and we all know the Daily Show is supposed to be funny! We can't have logic interfering with our comedy.:)

7. consider the wave energy off my coast
Until they produce the studies regarding whale migration and crab - I won't support it. The fact that these things may look hideous, is also on my mind due to a personal vested interest in tourism. However, my objection is that there haven't been any studies done on wildlife, or beach damage if the things break loose and float ashore. People who live in the locations know the issues and are generally considering everything in its entirety. Attacking the Kennedy's is just a fun political game played by people from all sides.
