CNN outdoing AP on the "Dean's Already Quit" Meme.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/16/mgrind.day.monday/index.html

We're told a concession speech is being drafted in Burlington, where thousands of Deaniacs are ready to converge Wednesday for one last hurrah, the "meetup" to end all "meetups." There's no polling going on, no plans for new TV ads, no ... nothing.

TOLD BY WHOM?

Of course, all this defeatist talk contrasts sharply with Dean's weekend game face, including his declaration that "we're in no matter what" happens Tuesday. Dean dismissed an Associated Press report that, quoting Grossman, basically shoved him out of the race. "The confusion comes from people writing the stories that don't know what they're to talk about," Dean sniffed, referring to the AP wire story. "We're not dropping out after Tuesday, period."

OK, so we are supposed to believe the unnamed, unattributed "sources" who ostensibly "told" the writer that Dean was dropping out of the race tomorrow over the direct quotes of Dean himself? Why? On the basis that Dean "sniffed"?

After Sunday night's debate in Milwaukee, Dean rallied a crowd of young Deanies at Gaffrey's bar. There's been beer here, according to CNN's Claire Brinberg. People are excited. "No, we are not dropping out of the race after Wisconsin," Dean said as the crowd went wild. "We're in this for the long haul."

There's been beer here? What the hell is that supposed to signify? Not beer in a Milwaukee bar!

But then there was this from Dean campaign chief Roy Neel, posted on the campaign's blog last night: "I just talked to Governor Dean a few minutes ago and can tell you unequivocally, that no decision has been made about the nature of our campaign after Wisconsin, that he is determined to go forward, keep fighting, to advance the message of this movement all the way, to defeat George Bush, to change American politics."

"BUT"? Why "BUT"? Wouldn't FUTHERMORE be more appropriate?

1. He's not maniacally screaming anymore
which the media vilified him for, and that's how you know he's already quit.

Just a suggestion.

4. So, Dean sniffed, huh?
The press sure has an keen ability to twist and mangle facts to convey whatever the hell they feel like.

The coverage of Dean in recent days (and weeks) has been sickening, to say the least.

5. At a packed rally today, Dean assured supporter after supporter he's in
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 11:13 PM by nu_duer
that he'll be in on super Tuesday, that he's not pulling out.

And the place was packed and rowdy.

Oh wait, doesn't this make us conspiracy theory nuts, beleiving the media has an agenda and all? Think I've read that here on DU a few times.

GO DEAN!
:D

I've been waiting a long time to cast my vote on Super Tuesday. Glad to hear he plans on staying long enough for me to do so! :D

6. Outrageous. . .Dean should stay in as long as he wants to
More false drama to get ratings.

Sometimes it appears that the news orgs are only about getting ratings for their parent companies.

And the way to big ratings in thier minds? Tell the news like it was a big soap opera from Aaron Spelling.

So everything gets turned into this fake life and death drama.

Dean needs to do what he needs to do. He should stay in as long as he wants.

7. Stick, that is not a bad article at all really.
They have been talking about our demise in worse terms for days now. We are not demised, and it is going to go on. Read it again. It will be something like suggested in the article, I think. It may be off a little, but this is just not over.

11. My Best Guess is Grossman
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 01:09 AM by Crisco
It is truly amazing - and highly undemocratic - how much pressure people are under to kill this campaign.

12. It is absolutely shocking.
Isn't the point of the primaries to have a group of individuals competing agianst each other to win the nomination?

I am honestly amazed at how quickly people are crumbling beneath the pressure. Grossman is the best (and worst) example of this.

14. I'm never comfortable with someone in such a position of power..
.. having held that exact position for your rival, in the past. Like a rat, he jumped ship.. I wonder how long he's been courting Kerry.. perhaps helping out a bit over there??

Grossman revealed himself to be a total back-stabber. Why would anyone want him on board after that stint? The cynic in me says that this was a premeditated effort to derail Dean's campaign.

16. Do you guys remember our 1s and 2s being pushpolled in NH?
And the campaign was freaking at how they got the list? Hmm....mmm..
I am slapping my own hand for that one.
Other campaigns should not know the 1s and 2s.

20. He was a Judas DLC plant from the beginning.
How in the hell can you explain what he just did to Dean otherwise?

I would never even consider making such an unprofessional and unethical move against my most hated boss and I've worked for some real assholes!
