More Republicans defect to the Dems! Westchester County (NY)
The DA in my county has defected from Republican to Democrat this week:

It took 112 years, but Westchester Democrats have finally recaptured control of the District Attorney's Office - they just didn't do it at the ballot box.

In yet another setback to struggling Westchester Republicans, District Attorney Janet DiFiore switched her party affiliation yesterday and became the first Democrat to lead the county prosector's office since William P. Platt in 1895.

"After careful consideration, I decided to change my party registration because the principles of the Democratic Party are closely aligned with my views," DiFiore said in a statement released to the media after she filed her new party registration with the Board of Elections.

DiFiore, who was elected district attorney in 2005, is the second major Republican figure to bolt from the county GOP during the summer. Assemblyman Michael Spano of Yonkers announced his decision to become a Democrat last month.

1. Repub to Dem - does this really help us?
I find myself wondering about this whole issue of Repubs becoming Democrats. Because in the end don't we just have a bunch of Republicans in hiding, getting elected as Democrats now because they know they can't get elected as Repubs any more. And they aren't really different people, voting for more Democratic issues necessarily, just being opportunistic in wanting to continue getting elected. Am I missing something here?
