Verdict reached in Miami in the Jose Padilla case. Will be announced at 2PM. Saw his
psychiatrist on Democracy Now this morning. She said that she did not know if he was guilty of the charges, but that he had already been punished enough for his trip to Pakistan.

It was very sobering listening to her recount how he was treated when held in isolation for over three years. How could it have come to this in our country?

Of course, we all know the answer to that.

CNN just reported that the jury only began deliberations yesterday.

3. Short deliberation could be trouble.
And Miami is only slightly less wingnutty than Waco Texas. Still, the OJ jury deliberated less than two days so who knows, but I think they're gonna convict.

7. Why was he tried in Miami? I thought he was arrested
on the Canadian border.

8. Yes, and just found guilty on all three counts, along with his two co-defendants after a 3 mo. trial
and not even two full days of jury deliberation. The sentencing will be in early December.

Jonathan Turley of George Washington University, a constitutional law professor--said, rather than very happy, the Bush adminstration was probably "relieved" about the outcome--(they had held him insolation for over three years) as they had been unable to bring the original charge--conspiring to release a dirty bomb in this country.

11. Found GUILTY on all 3 counts.
It's sad day in Amerika.

I suppose the 3 1/2 years of torture, solitary confinement and denied access to basic human rights just wasn't enough.

We, as a country AND a species, have no compassion, understanding or intelligence left.

12. I still want to see evidence
From what I understand, the only evidence that was mentioned in connection with this trial is some kind of Al Queda form that he filled out to attend an Al Queda camp....a form that the Bush administration is keeping secret.

So where was the evidence?

I know the judge didn;t allow the defene to use any evidence, but where was the evidence from the prosecution?

This stinks and I have a feeling the venue of this trial was chosen precisely because of a predetermined outcome.

13. The psychiatrist who interviewed Padillo for 22 hours said that she did not know if he was guilty of
the charges, but that he had already been punished enough for his trip to Pakistan--3 1/2 years in isolation and what she considered torture.
