General Petraeus' report on the Surge : "It's a clusterfuck" !
Edited on Wed Aug-15-07 11:16 PM by EVDebs
But the WH won't even let that become common knowledge. More like more of the 'catastrophic success' stuff they've been pr'ing the public with

Iraq Success 'Catastrophic': Bush
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0830-04.htm

"Col. Meyers: What's your assessment of this situation, Gunny?
Highway: It's a cluster fuck, sir. Marines shouldn't be sitting on their sorry asses filling out requisitions for equipment they should already have.
Col. Meyers: An astute observation. "

Memorable quotes for
Heartbreak Ridge (1986)

4. The WH won't let them put a negative spin on anything so you are correct
It IS a collossally successful clusterfuck. The Marines even don't have the equipment they need, just like in the Clint Eastwood movie quote.

SNAFU is only an approximation but FUBAR is about a close as you can get to the reality of the situation, don't you think ?

6. Decidedly FUBAR. Of course, General BetrayUs, were he allowed to rework that term, would say it
meant

Fantastic
Unrelenting
Beatdown of
Arab-Enemy
Resisters

Or something similarly obnoxious.

SNAFU? He'd say that meant SITUATION NORMAL, ALMOST FINISHED UP!!!

If I had no soul, I could do this spin shit!!!

3. It's always been my opinion
that Bush was just buying a few more months with the Petraeus thing. If Bush doesn't like what Petraeus says, then he'll replace him with another general or Petraeus will tactfully move on making a few waves as possible.

If it is reported that we've made progress (whatever that means) then it will be justification to continue. If we haven't made progress then it wil be justification to give it a few more months. The outcome will be the same no matter what the report says.

Bush isn't going to change on Iraq. He'll be more than happy to hand the mess over to the next Democratic President and disappear into Texas.

5. I hear ya Mz Pip...
...pretty hard not to notice when a General of the stature of Petraeus bucks the party line...I guess that is what the MSM is for.

7. I always thought it was a buildup for any attack on Iran and aftermath
Which is why I think the wargaming that should have shown the DoD that Iraq would be a clusterfuck, excuse me, quagmire, will show the exact same thing with any strike on Iran. In fact, Atlantic Monthly showed this in James Fallow's article Will Iran Be Next ?

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200412/fallows

Believe me, the DoD HAS wargamed this and knows what will happen.

11. Plus the new "war czar" just took over.
You've got to give him a chance before you pull the plug on the occupation. :eyes:

9. According to the LA Times this morning
The Big September Report is going to be written by White House political operatives, not by Mr. Petraeus. So it doesn't matter much what the military says, by the time the Bushies get done writing the report, the only suspense will be whether we're seeing an incredible success or a spectacular success from the surge.

Then watch as Mr. Petraeus, totally neutered, rolls over on his back and piddles on his tummy.

12. I was being sarcastic, I know that the Gen isn't writing ANYTHING
but if he did and was being truthful he'd call it like Gunny would have.
