What is our official excuse for not having an organized effort to demand Bush's resignation?
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 07:07 PM by Dr Fate
We all know that the "centrists" have lots of excuses for not fighting Bush with impeachment- but what is the official excuse for not having an organized effort of big name DEMS-and all other DEMS on TV- demanding his resignation?

It doesn't require votes, it doesn't take time away from the floor of congress, and the majority of Americans would agree with it.

If DEMS mentioned it every time they were on TV, it would force a national conversation about whether Bush's actions call for resignation. (Hint- most Americans think they do)

I know that in reality the "centrists" are either just too timid or not savvy/smart enough to do it right, but I'm just curious- what is the official excuse for not at least calling for Bush to resign?

The call might go something like this:

"We realize that impeachment would (Insert time-worn excuse here). We don't want to have to drag the country through that. That is why we demand for Bush to resign, for the good of our nation, so that Republicans and Democrats in congress can get back to work and not be bogged down by all these scandals...blah, blah, blah..."

Now I KNOW it wont happen, but I'm just curious as to what the excuses are for why it wont.

Doc

2. "Bush should resign because (insert reason here.)" Gee- that took all of 20-45 seconds, if that.
Sorry, "too busy" doesnt work.

5. Busy on vacation...
Yeah, they're too busy on the beach this summer vacation. Gimme a break.

At this point, I figure Bush must have compromising pictures of nearly every member of Congress in an Abu-Grahaib type clusterfuck or something, it's about the only thing that explains their inaction. Or maybe they just don't want to get Anthrax letters....your guess is as good as mine.

btw, RFK Jr. has consistently said that "Bush should be impeached as a civics lesson." LOL. That's how elementary this is...so would somebody please explain it to our honorable senators and representatives?

6. How will NOT calling for his resignation keep Republicans from fighting us like always?
How does making a 45 second comment in front of a camera throw us sooooo off track? Are we ADD children now?

The whole point in having all DEMS calling for resignation is that it has the effect of impeachment w/o getting into all the mechanics that our passionate anti-impeachment crowd uses as an excuse for not fighting Bush.

Calling for Bush's resignation takes a few seconds, if you can walk and chew gum, then you can say a phrase or 2 on TV AND work on whatever it is you are working on.

That excuse doesn't work either. Got anything better?

How about "The public would turn against us if we say the most unpopular President in history should step down" or
"Republicans would be mean to us if we did that."

Oh wait, those are excuses for not impeaching. I guess if you really stretch it they work here too, vaguely.

27. Dr. Fate, I agree
You are asking why no one in politics even mentions impeachement in print or tv. There is no discussion. Maybe a Chris or Scarbourough or Keith might throw it out there, but that's it. At this late date when it comes to bush's term some may think it would be too much of a disruption for the Dems running for office. I don't know the answer, anything to slow george down would be great. Who knows what the idiot has on his "mind".

8. Because it's a complete waste of time
You can call for his resignation until you're blue in the face, until the cows come home, until the blue-faced cows come home. Shrub will not resign, now or ever. He may even refuse to leave voluntarily in '09.

So, you want to call for his resignation? Go for it - keep tilting at those windmills, Don Quixote.

9. I see- your basic excuse is "We cant fight Bush because he wont let us!!!"
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 08:23 PM by Dr Fate
A waste ot TIME? It takes all of 45 seconds to make the case. 2 minutes tops.

Energizing the base like it has never happened before and making liars out of the people who (Rightfully?)think DEMS are "spineless" is a waste of time?

Tilting at windmills?

I just want to see Republicans on TV making excuses for why Bush shouldnt resign- oh wait- the "centrist" Democrats are doing that- so the Republicans dont have to! ;)

A tough Democrat might say something like- "Sure, Wolf, we know that Bush is too dishonest and unpatriotic to do the right thing, but someone has to wear the white hat. Bush should resign so that we can avoid all these scandals and get back to work. America doesnt need to see congress go through his trash- the honorable thing is for him to step down..."

I know, I know- too tough. Too inspiring. Too "nut roots."

It's not a waste of time-they are just too scared of Bush and the media to do it.

13. And it's still a waste of a couple of minutes.
...because he won't resign. Ever. Not under any circumstances. No matter how many people ask for it, politely or otherwise. The idea that George W. Bush will voluntarily relinquish the reins of power is completely inconsistent with everything we've learned about him during the last six and a half years.

You want to get rid of him? Work for impeachment. He will leave when he's thrown out on his ass, and not a moment sooner. Calling for his resignation will accomplish nothing whatsoever, so why waste your breath?

14. Hey- at least we agree that we should work towards impeachment.
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 09:18 PM by Dr Fate
If that is so, I have no real quarrel with you.

I am asking this question to people who agree with Bush/meida in their opposition to impeachment- I am offering an alternative to them- I'm trying to give them an opportunity to NOT agree with Karl Rove for once on whether Bush should go or not.

Anyway, calling for his resignation would not be a waste of 2 minutes- an elected DEM using any spare second they have to let Bush remain unaccountable in the court of public opinion is where waste would lay.

As I said elsewhere, discussing whether Bush should resign or not is the LAST thing the Republicans want to have to do.

Getting them to trip over themselves to make excuses for Bush (instead of US making the god-damned excuses for him) would accomplish plenty- hell.

It might even dust up more talk of impeachment (Which you are for, right?) but first you have to throw down the gauntlet.

Again, inspiring and mobilizing the DEM base like it has never been done b/f is hardly a waste of 2 minutes on the part of each elected DEM with the guts to do it.

30. I would like to see george defend himself to the public
Impeachment doesn't even have to happen to get the message out there that he has committed crimes. Ask questions publicly. Make the media ask the questions concerning this admin. They discuss everything else in detail but not the laws bush has broken. The laws dealing with our civil rights, privacy, habeas corpus, geneva convention, lies to attack a country that was not a threat to our country, etc. Maybe that is needed. Just a few congress people to get face time on the tube and "ask" the questions.

Incidentally, your average Joe would agree with it.

Therefore you can be sure that the painfully out-of-touch "centrists" are against it.

10. Bad politics, simple as that
It would look like a power grab by Pelosi, and we wouldn't have enough votes for it to go through. The Repukes would be happy if we tried; it would galvanize their supporters.

11. That is the excuse for being frightened of impeaching. You dont need votes to demand a resignation.
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 08:45 PM by Dr Fate
And if the Repukes would be happy to talk about kicking out Bush- if this is a gift horse for them, then why didnt they or their media give 24/7 coverage to DK when he called for impeachment?

Why? Because whether Bush should leave office, one way or another is the LAST thing they want to talk about.

I call 100% BS on that theory. Demanding he resign would "galvanize" Bush's supporters? WHAT supporters? The majority of Amercians would agree with it.

Are you really trying to say that whether Bush should resign or not is a topic that Republicans really want to be talking about?

The Republicans by in large as well as the media ignored DK's call for impeachment-didnt capitalize -they barely even mentioned it- so there goes that theory.

Whether Bush should step down is the LAST thing Republicans want to discuss.

Letting Bush slide? Helping the GOP & media with a symbolic gesture that Bush never did anything rising to the level of at least a call for resignation?

Now THAT is bad politics- plain & simple.

18. So our excuse for not saying on TV "Bush should resign" is b/c we brush our teeth?
Edited on Mon Aug-13-07 09:16 PM by Dr Fate
Lame-O.

What ever the Red-Coats do has nothing to do with why timid DEMS are too frightened to go on TV and demand that Bush resign "for the good of the country" and so "congress can get back to work without having to deal with a new Bush scandal every day."

Hell, if enough people saw DEMS on TV saying that, it might even dust up more support for an actual, formal impeachment than there already is.

One reason more people are not talking about removing Bush is because DEM leaders themselves are too scared to suggest ANY kind of removal, impeachment or otherwise.

DU's DLCers and "centrists", the ones who oppose impeachment the most, initally supported the war and fought what they called the "nut roots" about as hard as I've ever seen them fight for anything else.

#6: It might piss off our campaign funders, or interfere with our campaign for re-election, which began the day our last election was called.

#7: We don't want to give the public the idea that our government, or our political leaders, can be held accountable. After all, we plan to be in the WH in '09.
