Dean's Democracy Bonds: Is DU involved?
Edited on Sun Aug-12-07 03:17 PM by kansasblue
https://www.democrats.org/democracybonds.html

The Republicans raise $10 million every month from corporate interests and lobbyists. The Democratic Party will never be able to compete in the traditional ways with a party that has abandoned the people and taken selling access and influence to a new level.

I was wondering if DU is somehow involved. Could we buy a bond in DU's name? Set aside some of our donations for it?

Or is this old news and I should just go get one.

1. no thanks.
I will contribute to individual Democratic candidates. I will not dump my money into a pool to spread among those who fund bush's occupation in Iraq, who deprive ALL Americans of their Fourth Amendment rights by voting for warrantless wiretapping and who never vote against the military-industrial complex and Big Oil.

3. wouldn't the funds be used for ALL Democratic races?
no, i wasn't thinking specifically of the DLC. I was thinking of a party that is increasingly going to come under Clinton's right wing, DLC control if she continues to lead in the polls.

Dean's job, please correct me if i'm wrong, is to help Democrats in key races regardless of their views on the issues. I don't wish to support that. I don't want my campaign dollars to be disbursed to "win" when they're spent to help "win" things like more Iraq funding, warrantless wiretapping, and support for the Iraqi Oil Law.

If Democracy Bonds will be spent on any Democratic candidate who supports that right wing crap, again, I'll just say "no thanks."

4. ok.. I understand.

I feel that even more good can be done by giving to election integrity groups, independent reporter and such.

But if people are buying Democracy Bonds I thought maybe DU could show it's strength in that area.

There's not many candidates I like. But I like EFF.org, Bradblog.com, velvet revolution .us, aclu and Amnesty international and IWTnews if they'd get going soon.

11. So you won't support Dean's concept because Hillary might win?
What a way to think.

14. I think we should have 4 sections of the Democrats..
The DLC and The Blue Dogs....corporate wing

PDA...impeachment wing. If anyone says a reason why other options are possible they get upset. That group here only donates to people they like and they do not usually support the party financially.

Congressional wing....which won't listen to us until we get our voices back through the rebuilding of the party in the states, and have time to get the old guard not so much in control.

The DNC which is the infrastructure wing....with someone who is willing to let the grassroots back in to the party.

Well...damn, that's a pretty glum assessment, ain't it? But you can feel good....you did not give a penny to the last section I mentioned

10. This board advocates NOT donating to Democrats.
It depends on whether we fund our party's rebuilding or not.

Dean is not perfect...thus he is not to be donated to via DU thought.

5. I support Howard Dean.
This is his baby and I'm on board 100%.

We need to be careful not to cut off our nose to spite our face.

9. Dean and the DNC are not very popular at DU anymore.
He is trying to build the party outside of the usual DC consultants and DC insiders. Not a popular concept. You would think at DU it would be....but more DUers advocate not contributing to the DNC than most anywhere except Republican boards.

We donate to the DNC regularly, but you will get attacked here for advocating it.

12. And that's a shame, really. He is on our side.
But that's how it is here at DU now.

He is not perfect, is flying under the radar for change....but many won't donate because apparently they don't think the strategy is perfect.

13. In fact, someone tried starting a thread at DailyKos about buying the bonds.
They did not get very far either.
