Kucinich has actually worked as a hospital orderly and as a surgical tcehnician.

So he doesn't need to "walk a mile" in a nurse's or health care worker's shoes, he has already put in his miles.

He also worked in a steel mill and as a television cameraman, still belongs to that union, which is part of the AFL-CIO.

That's part of the reason I support him: he has worked in the real world, not just done the law school to politics route that so many have.

He also holds the best positions on the issues: he supports real single payer health care, wants to end the war immediately, repeal the PATRIOT Act, withdraw from NAFTA and the WTO and penalize American companies who outsource jobs so that jobs will return to the U.S. He strongly supports unions and a living wage. He also supports gay marriage, and no other candidate except Mike Gravel does.

Don't let the media convince you that it's going to be a "Clinton Coronation," as CNN has said.

Our votes can elect Dennis Kucinich.

1. He walks his talk
he is courageous and does what he feels is the right thing for the PEOPLE.

Don't forget to have all your friends listen to him on Ed Schultz's program Wednesday, Sept. 12--all three hours!

3. September 12? You'd better remind us again around that time!

Lest we forget.

2. Don't forget that Dennis was the Mayor of Cleveland when he fought
the banks and the powers that be to save MUNY Light (the city owned power company) for Cleveland.

Dennis is a power house. Don't let his short stature fool you!

He came up poor, sometimes living with his entire family in their car. He doesn't quit. He keeps fighting and moving on. He is determined.

He doesn't need to be President. But America needs an honest fighter like Dennis to save her.

Rock on, Dennis! :yourock:

4. That's one of my other favorite things, that he refused to sell even though

he knew the decision could end his political career. He was willing to sacrifice his career to make sure the people of Cleveland continued to have cheaper electricity. The newspaper attacked him and he was not re-elected

Ten or fifteen years later, the Chamber of Commerce commended him for not selling MUNY Light. And people asked him to return to Cleveland and get back into politics.

Go, Dennis, Go!

19. He's well-loved there now.
When we lived there, my FIL still hated him for being "anti-business," but he was from Akron-area. All the Clevelanders we knew loved the guy. He's a real Clevelander, through and through.

5. I'm wondering how much his short stature has to do with his upbringing.
If his kids and nieces and nephews are all taller, that would suggest Dennis missed a few meals as a kid.

6. I understand
that their mailman was pretty tall, so maybe we should stick with nieces and nephews.

16. What a rude comment. You only make your candidate look bad.

To insinuate that sort of thing about anyone's family is the height of rudeness, no pun intended. Children often resemble their grandparents more than their parents, can exhibit recessive traits even when both parents exhibit the dominant trait, since two parents each carrying a dominant and a recessive allele will exhibit the dominant trait but may each pass on a recessive allele to one or more of their children, insuring that the child(ren) will exhibit the recessive trait.

Besides that, environment is a factor and nutrition is part of environment. Dennis may be short because he inherited the trait or because he wasn't well-nourished as a child, or a combination of both.

If Obama had grown up in poverty as Dennis did, instead of in a gated community in Indonesia, he might be short, too.

17. You're welcome! I really admire Dennis for all he has done. As a kid, he worked

mopping floors at his school and he caddied on weekends and after school to earn money to buy his books and help with his parochial school tuition. (All Catholic children's tuition for parochial school is paid in part by their parish and poor families receive more help than others. Lots of people don't know that and can't understand how a poor family can send their kids to Catholic school. I had a friend in high school who was one of 11 kids and they all went to parochial school.) He was carrying two golf bags by the time he was 12, because he made more money carrying two than just one.

He's a workhorse, there's no doubt about it. And I believe he understands real poverty better than any other candidate can, because his family sometimes had to live in their car and he and the other older kids were sometimes put in an orphanage when their mother was sick. His dad always worked, but they were always poor, possibly due to his mother being sick a lot, so he knows about the working poor and he knows how Cleveland and all of the Rust Belt has suffered from the loss of manufacturing jobs.

If people knew more about him, they'd support him, unless they like the status quo. It's not just about his life, of course, but about his positions on the issues, the war for example.

As Dennis said at the AFL-CIO debate, Obama talks about the one speech he made against the war, before he was in the Senate, but since he's been in the Senate, he's voted for every spending bill Bush has wanted. The same can be said for Clinton and Edwards, except that they didn't make speeches against the war before it began. Dennis has voted against all appropriations for the war and has made 150 speeches against the war on the floor of the House, he sued Bush to try to stop the war, and he promises he would bring the troops home immediately, using money allocated for fighting the war.

7. If one REALLY wants to help the Kucinich campaign...NOW IS THE TIME TO DONATE!!
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 09:41 PM by Douglas Carpenter
you can do it RIGHT NOW on DU/Act Blue.

It's very fast. It's very easy. Do it now!

Some are supporting Congressman Kucinich because they strongly believe he can win. Others are supporting him because they support his agenda (or at least most of it) and want those issues brought to the center of public debate. But whatever your reason Mr. Kucinich does not have the funding of the top-tier candidates. But small donations add up very fast. That's how the Dean campaign became a significant force in 2004.

So whether or not you are convinced that Congressman Kucinich could possibly win...if you want the issues Dennis Kucinich brings to the public square, if you believe his message of Strength through Peace is important, that single-payer universal health care is important, if you believe American needs fundamental changes; his campaign needs a lot more money then it has in its coffers now. He won't be getting a whole lot from the corporate lobbyist and their special interest... so ...PLEASE DONATE NOW ! you can do it RIGHT NOW on DU/Act Blue.

It's fast. It's very easy. Do it now! I did...just a few minutes ago

18. As the campaign was saying earlier, if a million people gave $50, he'd
Edited on Fri Aug-10-07 07:38 AM by DemBones DemBones
have $50 million. Considering that he flies commercial and doesn't stay in fancy hotels, he can campaign with less than other candidates.

But he probably should have more money to hire people to produce ads, etc.

So send money now! $50 if you can, or more, but if you can only spare $20, or $10, send it!

10. In the debate the other night, I thought it was great when he said
I live in my community with my people, not in gated communities like these guys. No rebuttal from the other candidates about it.

He just says what he wants, I admire that in a political figure!
