So if Richardson Does not get the nod....
Does He run for the Senate against and old and damaged Domeneci or does he hold out for a shot at Secretary of State.....Tough choice.

1. He is a great guy. I would like to see him in the Senate.
Secretary of State would be wonderful, but I think the nation needs him in the Senate.

11. Senate would give him another crack at President.
SOS wouldn't, I think. Does anyone know if a SOS ever became president? Is it a resume builder for the job?

13. Actually, a lot of SoSes became president, although
these were some of the first SoSes. Like Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, James Madison, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren, James Buchanan. I see what you're saying though since there hasn't been one since 1845. I think it could definitely help Richardson though.

4. I hope he's involved in federal government in some capacity, but
the best candidate for SECSTATE is General Clark.

Why not President Richardson?? Sounds great to me.

15. There is a caveat
preventing a military retiree from serving as SECDEF for ten years after he/she retires. General Clark would be an awesome Secretary of State cleaning up the mess made by the conservative values slut kindasleezy rice. (Yo lurkers, dontcha just love the way YOU changed the tone?)

Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 03:59 PM by steven88
I fail to see why people support Richardson. Don't they remember when he was head of DOE under Clinton? He was an embarrassment. He could qualify for Bush's cabinet if he was a Republican!

7. Richardson should take Domenici's Senate seat.
Then again, I suspect he's angling to be Hillary's VP.

He's probably thinking how cute it would sound to have a Hill/Bill ticket.

22. I'm sorta hoping that he scores the VP slot on the ticket
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 10:00 PM by ooga booga
As much as I'd like to see Pete Demedici retired, I think it'd be better to see Bill Richardson step into the VP job. (Assuming that the Presidential nomination is now out of his reach, but, who knows?) I believe he's the ONLY one in the Presidential field who's actually gone to Pyongyang and negotiated with Kim Jong Il. The experience he's built up working in behalf of US interests abroad is valuable. As VP, he'd be able to get our standing abroad back where it should be.

10. He's said he wants to finish his term as governor.
I think SOS would tempt him, though. He's one of few people who has a shot at undoing the damage this administration has done to the entire State Department, and by extension, our place on the planet.

14. Worst phrase: "Gets the nod".
There is no nod, hopefully. It's an electoral process.
Sorry, but that's just one of those phrases that bugs me.

position. Not my first choice for President but he would be good there too.

Why cannot all bases be covered?

18. because that scenario would be seen as tacky.
I understanf the thinking.... but it would not go over wellin his home state.

He enters the Presidential race dissoing his job as Governor...
He Loses the presidential race, decided to run for Senator
He wins a bruising campaign....and Quits the Governor's job.
The LIetenant Governor steps in on Novermber 8th
And a month after the election Richardson quits the Job he was elected to serve xix years before he takes the oath of office to become Secretary of State.

The new Governor would likely be forced to call another election.

Not a politicaly appetizing set of circumstance.

20. No, but there'd likely be Democrats in all offices.
I'm not so sure a run against Domenici would be all that bruising either. Tackiness aside, what's central is political power and how to get and maintain it.

21. I'd like to see him a SoS or VP
I'd like to see him as VP, especially for someone like Obama who's weaker in the foreign policy area. But I think he'd be more suited as SecState. I think he'd be awesome as either one.

Oh, and the Kooch for SecLabor!!!
