Libel/Slander and Defamation of character.
I think it is necessary at this juncture file suit. This one has to be keep out in the open. Those were serious allegations from Matt Drudge and also Mr. Murdock, the owner of the sun. And it turns out ALL OF THEM ARE FALSE.

2. Proven with false statements
from Alex Pollier's relationship or lack of with Mr. Kerry. These news outlets have thousands of hits a day and the information that Mr. Drudge was deliberately headlining were false about Mr. Kerry and meant to assasinate his character and the future of this nation was put at risk. Matt Drudge is a traitor.

5. Five reasons why you can't
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 01:36 PM by 2004Donkeys
Start off with the premise that public figures cannot sue for libel and slander.

Then:

1. You have no legal standing. (You're not John Kerry)
2. In Republican states that have barratry statutes, you could be criminally charged, imprisioned, and have a criminal record for life (making it hard to ever find a job).
3. Republicans will sue back.
4. Most Americans would view this is a suppression of the press.
5. Republicans will then take the lead and sue all of the smaller left outlets that can't hire good lawyers.

8. No, no no no
I'm not guilty of slander, since I merely reported a rumor without checking into it all and/or lying about having done so.

See, here's the deal. I'm completely and utterly incompetent. It's true. I have no idea what I'm even talking about. Thus, I can't be guilty of slander, because I'm just too stupid to even be cognizant of the fact that I've smeared someone.

Hey, does anyone here have F. Lee's number?

Warm Regards and Best Wishes,
Matt

10. Libel of public figures has to include 'actual malice'
In other words, you basically would have to prove that Drudge knew the information was false and published it anyway with the intent to harm Kerry's reputation. These types of cases are almost impossible to prove unless you have an admission by the author (Drudge) that he realized it was all baloney when he published it.
