Americans That Sell Out The Constitution
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 01:47 PM by kentuck
Although many Democrats are angry today at those in their own Party that were so naive and were so quick to sell out our Constitution, we must add the Republicans to the list, also. They were naive and sell-outs because it was not necessary. They fell prey to the fear put out by this White House, for purely political reasons.

There is no way to be 100% safe - 100% of the time. Life has its dangers and threats. The average American has a better chance of getting mugged, or killed in an auto accident, or being struck by lightning than to be killed by a terrorist. We are not at "war" with terrorism - we are at war with our own fears. For those that say the terrorists are already here, why haven't we arrested them? How are they getting into our country? How do they know that and why do they think that?

Those that would so nonchalantly and so quickly sell out our Constitution deserve no place in our government. Not just Republicans, but Democrats also. To show such disrespect for our laws and Constitution is unforgivable.

In the first place, the Pentagon and the NSA did not need any new law to spy on these foreign calls. Even if they did, who really thinks that fear of violating the FISA laws would prevent them from eavesdropping on whomever they wish? They have proved they are willing to violate any law they wish. Any thinking American, especially a member of Congress, should have known the history of this Administration.

Some will argue that this whole controversy is a lot about nothing. However, in these times, we should be acutely aware of our rights and our Constitution. Those that would hold those rights in such low regard do not deserve to be representing anyone in the Congress of the United States, in my opinion.

Someone had posted a list of all the Democrats that voted for this bill. Each and everyone of them should have a primary challenger. They have earned it. It is unfortunate that the Republican Party would be so divisive to create these situations. Although the Democrats may be naive and undeserving of holding office, it is the Republicans that should be at the top of every Americans list to be removed.

The majority of Republicans believe we are at "war" and that we will be at war for years, perhaps generations. If we believe what they believe, then we will be at war for generations. Either we define the struggle against these "terrorists" and the "war" in Iraq or the Republicans will define the battle lines for us. These Democrats, that voted for yesterdays bill, not only dishonor our Constitution but continue to promote a war that was not necessary. Their votes were immoral because it permits those that use fear and deceit to continue to drain us of our treasure and blood.

1. About this part:
"Someone had posted a list of all the Democrats that voted for this bill. Each and everyone of them should have a primary challenger."

I wish this is all we'd need to do to get rid of the vermin that continually vote with the Republicans. We tried this in CT, and what did the Party "leaders" and "incumbents" do? Most backed Lieberman. Even Boxer, I'm sad to say, backed Lieberman against the will of the Democratic voters of that state. The status quo will be protected as they all circle their wagons, and make sure the incumbents are re-elected whether we want it or not... and no matter who we run against them.

I have never felt so hopeless about htis Party and so suckered by it in my whole life.

2. purely political reasons...
is exactly right. But this is expected from Republicans, they have been doing this to us for a long, long time and will continue to do so for as far into the future as we can see. Now the Democrats, that is a different story, we expect better from them as we should. My fear is that the two parties are becomming one giant conglomorate run by the biggest and richest corporations and for purely political reasons.
