Woman Denies Rumors of Kerry Affair
snip-
Breaking her silence four days after the allegations surfaced on the Internet, Alexandra Polier issued a statement to The Associated Press, saying, "I have never had a relationship with Senator Kerry, and the rumors in the press are completely false."

snip-

"Whoever is spreading these rumors and allegations does not know me," Polier said, appealing to the media to respect her privacy and the privacy of her fiance and his family.

Polier also took issue with reports that referred to her as a former Kerry intern.

"I never interned or worked for John Kerry," she told AP over the phone.

In a separate statement, Polier's parents, Terry and Donna Polier of Malvern, Pa., dismissed the "completely false and unsubstantiated" allegations about their daughter.

"We love and support her 100 percent and these unfounded rumors are hurtful to our entire family," the statement said. "We appreciate the way Senator Kerry has handled the situation, and intend on voting for him for president of the United States."

Is this enough for all those using DU to spread this story?

Will it be enough for the press?

Remember Gennifer Flowers?
The voters perceived that Clinton was being demonized by the GOP, and in turn, rallied around him in support.

Imagine that, times 100 - as Kerry is completely innocent. Thank you Matt Drudge, thank you DUers who spread this bs for days, thank you media for making sure everyone knew the name JOHN KERRY. Thank you for handing us the primary.

By the way, wasn't Dean supposed to go negative on Kerry today regarding this scandal. That was posted here on DU last night. AW... shucks. Back to the drawing board.

26. Not Your Imagination
IMO, anyway.

The RW pushers had much bigger audiences (Drudge, The Sun), but in terms of sheer volume, it sure as hell seemed like many of the non-Kerry Democrats who were falling all over themselves to push this story, much more so than the Freepers, for example.

52. For old times sake
I make my bi-hourly post:

"The Drudge item blaming Lehane quoted Craig Crawford, a former Democratic operative who now works as a consultant and columnist for MSNBC. Within 10 minutes after Drudge posted the Kerry intern item, Crawford sent a memo to his superiors that said the story was "something Chris Lehane (clark press secy) has shopped around for a long time." According to Crawford, someone at MSNBC promptly leaked his memo to Drudge. But when Lehane called Crawford with a loudly indignant denial, the MSNBC columnist quickly issued a public retraction. He said:

"The comments attributed to me are from a private email to television news associates based on conversations with Democratic campaign operatives. I did not consider any of it confirmed enough to report or publish. I can only verify that Chris Lehane's rivals in other Democratic campaigns made these claims and I have found no independent source to confirm it. Which is why we did not go with the story. But then someone sent my email to others, which is the only reason it got into the public domain." In other words, there is no proof that Lehane circulated the rumor, let alone that the rumor has any basis in reality."

Source: Joe Conason, Salon, 2/13/04

I would still LIKE to know which opponent Democratic campaign Crawford refers to, but for the sake of unity, I am willing to drop the subject, unless attempts to connect this smear job to the Clark campaign and away from the despicable Democrats who cooperated with the GOP continue, despite the woman's denial. If they do, no holds barred.

For now:

:bounce:

GO KERRY!!

saying this was the route this thing was going to take and that the Kerry camp was going to counter that the affair was with one of his aides. Just sit back and wait for developments. All the relief in the world isn't going to make these stories go away because they're not new and these 'rumors' are supposedly the main reason Gore wouldn't have Kerry as a running mate and had to settle for Lieberman.

127. these 'rumors' are supposedly the main reason Gore wouldn't have Kerry?
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 11:03 AM by yellowcanine
You and other posters have repeated this several times with absolutely nothing to back it up. Did you ever stop to think that maybe this little tidbit was added to the slander to give it more credibility? And since when is FR a credible source for anything? Can we assume that since you are citing FR you consider it a valid source? And why did you put 'rumors' in quotes? Are you implying the story isn't a rumor? What would you call it then? A well-sourced story? Inquiring minds want to know.

On Edit: Oh, and by the way, how does a rumor of something that supposedly happened in 2001 impact on Gore's choice for VP in 2000? I knew Gore was intelligent but I didn't know he was clairvoyant.

One other thing - As far as I can tell, I don't KNOW that Kerry camp countered with anything. The story that she dated one of Kerry's aides (note, dated - did not say affair) was after all, another Drudge "exclusive", was it not? And we all know by now what that is worth. IMO Drudge is grasping at straws to rescue some credibility for his orphan "story". "See, I wasn't complete wrong. Somebody was dating someone and she is in Africa."

70. I'd um, ah, like to apologize
Hello friends, Newsman Matt Drudge here.

It appears that I owe you all an apology. Senator Kerry too. It seems as if my shoddy reporting, lack of attention to detail and lack of any moral clarity has caused me to slander yet another Democrat. Funny, my friend Ann wrote a book called slander about all you folks, and it turns out that I slander way more than you do!

But I digress. I heard a rumor, and typically, just posted it for the world to see. While I'd like to promise that it won't happen again, I'm completely dishonest anyway, so my word would be as meaningless as a Reagan dime.

With that, I'd like anyone on this board who was ever an intern for any highly ranked Democrat to please send me a personal email. It is very important that I talk to you.

God bless you all.

Sincerely,
Matt

I want to know what happened. There are conflicting stories. One day K's a "sleezeball" and now he's OK. I rather get this out in the open now and get it behind him while the primary's are still underway. Right now, I'm wondering who got to the girl and the parents and told them to shut up.
