It is going to take more than one election to change the face of
Congress just as it will take more than one election to bring a majority of the people around to a truly progressive agenda...

This country is wide and diverse...

What plays well in New York just might not play the same in say Louisiana

Remember, the GOP fights for every bit of power it can and they will play dirty with absolutely no sense of guilt or angst...

That is a very important factor in predicting how certain democrats will wote...

We are up against a strong conservative broadcast media that is populated by people who make gobs of money and have an interest in protecting that cash flow. It is is more likely that the broadcast media will favor the GOP agenda of less tax and even less regulation over the Democratic agenda of fairness and a more equitable distribution of wealth and power...

Remember, this same media is under constant attack by the Right Wing noise machine that puts the broadcast media in a spot where they have to appear fair by granting precious broadcast time to right wing fanatics in order to have "the other side of the issue..."

This fight for our way of looking at things, you know truth, justice and the American way has never really been all that popular with the American public at large...

For most of our history, the US has been governed by conservative interests that only come under threat when there is such outrageous inequity or injustice that the public public demands change...

The general Public is very uneasy with this war but are not personally effected enough by the consequences to actually demand drastic and immediate change...

The GOP is really, really, really good at what they do, play to the basest of interest in order to provoke gut reaction instead of thoughtful reflection...

That is why, to me at least, the recent votes by democrats in congress are very distasteful. But I understand that this whole process of change will take more than seven months to bring about...

This Administration has done so much damage to the United States that I am, quite frankly, not sure we will be able to reverse in my lifetime let alone in one half term of congress all the harm they have done...

Look at all we have done in the last four years of increased opposition...

Our side, because we are persistent curs, have turned the approval rating of Bush upside down...

We forced the Broadcast Media to look critically at the way they cover the War...

We have passed a minimum wage increase, set down some real reforms in how the House and Senate conduct their affairs, took back the Congress from the GOP and have started to hold the Administration accountable for their actions through investigations and Congressional hearings...

So I know it is frustrating and it is infuriating to be modern day Cassandras, but I urge people, no beg people not to abandon the Democratic Party because we haven't swept Bush and his thugs out of office...

We need to consolidate our power base now and build on that base so we can have a lasting effect on the American future...

It does out Country no good to have a quick spasm of reform if we quickly turn the country back to reactionary republicans...

Regan had one thing right, he never criticized a party member in public. That credo, in part, led to a remarkable series of success for the GOP...

I am not saying we should decline from ever holding our Democratic elected officials to task...

All I am asking is that we keep in mind the alternative...

That's my two cents...

1. We didn't have to do a thing for *'s ratings to plummet; he did that all by
himself.
And I think we should always hold our elected leaders accountable. They work FOR us. If we don't do it when they screw up, they'll keep on screwing up.
