Matt Drudge is now on the defensive...
which, tactically speaking, is a very disadvantaged place to be.

Matt Drudge is now claiming that he has every right to "expose" the alleged Kerry infidelity, which, as it stands now, is a far way from being proved true. Drudge claims that because Bush One was asked about his alleged affair during his 1992 campaign, Drudge has the right to question Kerry.

It's turning into an Democratic-eye-for-a-Republican-eye situation. Take a look at Drudge's latest flash (you can almost hear him whining ;-) ) :

1. just being Matt Drudge is enough of a reason
he should be on the defensive every day of his putrid existence.

4. Perhaps Republicans who don't want reporters to venture into
the same territory with Bush Two, considering there is a rich history there of rumored abortions, trists, affairs and such.

14. He is being exposed as a rumor monger...again
I would have thought his reports of President Clinton's "black illegitimate son" that were as exposed as cruel lies would have done that for most people. But no. People still fall for his snake oil. Strange world.

5. The allegations against Bush 1 were never proven
and neither have the allegations against Kerry. So maybe Drudge should admit that he is not a true journalist and go away to the land of bushville; where everything can be just hunky dory for him and his ilk. I guess since Drudge sort of looks like an old time journalist in the movies, he feels he is a journalist. He is nothing more than a rumor monger.

8. One of the first ones to bring
up the matter of bush 1 affair was the one who brought out Monica Lewinsky. She was shipped to the Pentagon right after exposing bush 1. She mentioned Jennifer Fitzgerald and bush were a two some. I can't remember her name but she got big bucks for her expose of Clinton. How fast we forget.

7. This was pre-Monica Lewinsky...
...before they found out that when you take these allegations so far, people support whoever's being accused even more, and get annoyed with the investigation.

9. My husband ran a late night errand last night and heard on our
local radio station that "there is a woman who is going to be speaking out about a Kerry affair" so it is getting some legs. He is so funny and thought he heard the news before me!

I don't know what to make of all this. I know disreputable media moguls will run with a Drudge story before it has been verified.
Are they trying to plant a seed of doubt and get the voters to have buyers remorse at this stage in the primary where Kerry has won all but a few states?

10. Guys..
You know Drudge has been right before.. This time, the Kerry scandal is for real. It'll be out on the open before the 3/2 and dooming Kerry. Even the people in the US are starting to whisper on the allegations as if it was true.

My advice to Kerry? Drop out before it gets worse. Kerry is already a failed politican, and won't even help the Democrats win the GE. My man, Kucinich is the better person, and will be the one nominee during the brokered convention.

Dean is also good, and he has a clean record in terms of personal life.

Edwards too.

Sharpton? Forget it.

13. Welcome to DU...and drudge has been WRONG before too
He may have been onto something with Lewinski, but how quickly we forget his attempt to smear Clark a month ago--a smear that was disproven here on DU and eventually taken down and un-linked from his website.

How quickly Democrats forget that Drudge is out for two things: to promote the Republican agenda and to advance himself.

16. I wish
I really hope that there could be a brokered convention - but even at that, I don't know that Dennis would be the choice. I supported Dennis early and tried to caucus for him here in IA (unfortunatley he wasn't viable)

Most brokered conventions of the past have chosen party favorite sons or safe choices that everyone could agree on, such as Adali Stevenson in 1952 or William Jennings Bryan earlier in the century. In this year, I think Hillary Clinton (eek!) or someone like that could do it with a brokered convention. I don't see that happening, since Kerry is running away with the largest amount of delegates now.

As far as Kerry dropping out, that is stupid.

When the pukes when after Clinton he didn't fold.

19. But does the Democats wants Lewinsky Part Deux in their hands?
Unlikely. That's why the DLC/DNC are getting ready to drop Kerry like a hot potato.

Why do you think Gore rejected Kerry as a VP in 2000? Because Gore knew. Why else would Gore endorse Dean?

That's the everlasting question that is in the hands of DLC/DNC.

22. I see no evidence of the DNC or the DLC
is either a) monolithic or b) ready to drop Kerry. If anything, most statements by the DNC are encouraging people to get behind Kerry.

Monica didn't hurt Bill. I still believe it, and if the Republicans want to go down that road again, so be it.

It makes them look afraid of sex and way too uptight. Hell, if Clinton (Bill) could run this year, he'd hand Bush his ass.

so it appeared then that he was backpeddling and justifying his so-called reportage.

Hope Kerry sues him for libel and his little smut stand is closed down.

29. I'm contrite, not defensive
I, um, made a mistake, or so it would seem. Now, I can hardly admit to slander on my own web site, but I'll happily do so right here.

I'm a filthy liar, I take glee in the pain of others, particularly pain of Democrats. It's because I'm a very very very small man and I so loathe myself, that I'll do whatever I can to smear everyone else.

So, um, I do apologize for my lack of journalistic integrity.

God bless you all,
Matt
