Something that pisses me off about Conservatives
I've heard a whole bunch of "real" Conservatives claim that, although they tend to vote Republican, they don't consider Bushco to be true to the Conservative philosophy.

Well, that's just peachy. In that case, who the fuck voted for them? Was it The Green Party? The Lyndon Larouche Society?

And when they say that they "tend to vote Republican," do they mean that they sometimes vote for Democrats? Really? Like who?

Sorry to bitch about it, but a recent conversation with my token Republican friend got me to fuming about it.

He didn't get into office just by people thinking about him.

3. It's a cop out for sure. However, as for the tendency to vote Republican,
I say the same thing about voting Democratic. And yes, I have and will vote for Republicans (usually only relevant in local elections).

6. I wasn't going to make this about Lieberman, but you're 100% correct!
It's a lot like the knuckleheads in those last-minute pre-election focus groups...

Honestly, who's really undecided a week before the election? If you haven't figured it out by that time, you're either lying or you just haven't been paying attention.

7. There sure seems to be a big bloom of Independents lately, huh?
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 01:08 PM by Donnachaidh
I cannot remember when I spoke to a self-professed Independent that didn't sound like they weren't an EX-republican.

8. Its an absurd concept.
The line they are using is that Bush's policies have made government "bigger" and that therefore he is not "conservative". They will also throw in budgetary reasons etc. But this only works because of the right's efforts to redefine conservatism and liberalism over the past half century. Restricted government spending may very well be fiscally conservative, but that has as much to do with political conservatism as does environmental conservatism (in my opinion political liberalism is far more fiscally conservative ie demand-side economics vs supply-side, but that is another topic...). Political conservatism is about protection of tradition and opposition to change, and tends to draw its strength from the establishment attempting to maintain power. If anything, Bush is the definition of conservatism, strongly adhering to his beliefs and policies no matter what happens around him, refusing to cede any power.

And ditto that sentiment about the idea that Bush is well meaning, but incompetent. His incompetence is part of his ideology, anyone who thinks they have everything figured out and should not have to change anything about the way they act is going to seem incompetent once reality gets into the mix. As far as I am concerned the line between conservatism and incompetence is a very fine line.

just announced that he has registered as an independent as "the republican party no longer represents him."

Tough shit...you still voted for this asshole.

12. Yeah. They think Iraq's a mess because of our rules of engagement--
if we had just gone in and REALLY fucked them up, we'd be out of Baghdad and into Tehran by now. They're also mad because of immigration. And the overspending. They just don't think he's conservative enough. That's why they're so obsessed with finding a more-conservative nominee. The idiots think the general public wants someone to the right of Chimpy, simply because THEY do.

13. I have an acquaintance...
...who gets VERY upset if anybody says anything bad about Reagan. But he hates Bush. When asked if he voted for him, he says, yeah, twice. Why? The alternative was Gore or Kerry.

He LOVES the war in Iraq, however. This guy wants the U.S. to kill everybody else on the planet, so we can have their stuff. Seriously. There are a lot of people like that out there. I don't talk to that guy about ANYTHING anymore.
