Republican Support Collapses Among Youth
A new Democracy Corps/Greenberg Quinlan Rosner survey finds young people "profoundly alienated from the Republican party and its perceived values."

Key finding: "Young people react with hostility to the Republicans on almost every measure and Republicans and younger voters disagree on almost every major issue of the day."

In the presidential race, "both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama lead Rudy Giuliani -- the most acceptable of the Republican offerings among youth -- by significant margins. The President’s standing is substantially worse, to the degree that is possible, than we find in the broader electorate. Moreover, the disconnect we see between the Republicans and our nation’s youth runs so deep, that it likely will not only outlive the Bush administration, but potentially haunt the Republicans for many years to come."

Complete survey results are available.

2. Together with the rapid declining support for the DLC
Things are looking better for the true Democratic party where the values of the majority are.

4. Bill Schneider reported on the Situation Room that there was a mass exodus from the Republican Party

A couple of weeks ago (and discussed here quite a bit at the time ) ... Bill Schneider said that there was a record amount of first time voters registering as DEMOCRATS and butt loads of people (he didn't use the term butt loads, but you know what I mean ) who were changing their affiliations from Republican to either Independent or Democratic.

I sure as hell hope that that trend shows up in the upcoming elections!!!!

7. Yup.. everyone will try to please the Independents...

But depending on who the Democrats put up for a nominee, we will win them over easily!

I can only think of one Democrat who could easily lose the Independent vote, but to be fair to all 8 candidates, I won't mention her name..

8. We were told...
That everything wrong with our country, was the fault of Bill Clinton and his Liberal congress. That he was weak on, well, everything. I remember being hot and bothered over the military bases he had closed - at the time I was about 15 or thereabouts, but hey, I was just the typical right-headed young man from Lower Alabama, right? We watched Haiti and Somalia and Bosnia and Kosovo unfold on television, we were told the media was free and independent, while the networks were chomping into left-wing ass under the guidance of their corporate masters. We witnessed what may have been the best period in the latter half of the 20th century turned into a laughingstock, we were told that we were mocked across the would, etc, etc.

People my age grew up in a political environment where we were taught that if anything was bad it was "Billery's" fault. The more thoughtful came up with the great, deep idea of "fuck it, they're both the same, but at least Bush has balls the size of Texas." I was too young, by a month, to vote in the '00 election. Can't really say what I would have done in the booth - likely voted for Nader.

Well, we got what we asked for. A flash-bang motherfucker who's mostly one-liners and no diplomacy. A man who wanted to restore America to its former glory of a militaristic empire built on slave labor. Halfway into the first year of his presidency, he was already a joke. He was tanking hard. We figured, fuck it we'll ride out this one-term wonder and elect an actual vegetable - a carrot, perhaps, give us a nice phallic symbolism - in '04. And then the towers - and the house of cards with them - came crashing down.

So, that split the "youth." Some wanted answers, others wanted revenge. Four more fucking years.

And what now? Now we see we're fucked. Our little brothers and sisters see us gnashing our teeth and pulling our hair, kicking ourselves because of these ideas we soaked up, swallowed, and shat back out on command. My little sister will be 18 right in time for the election next year. And she's a whole fucking lot sharper than I was at her age. Her friends talk about this stuff. They don't do what we're doing here. They don't snipe and argue about which democratic candidate is "the one true love." Fuck the war. Fuck the Slave Society. Fuck the Republicans who brought these to us and fuck all their minions that let it happen. That's what they say. Maybe it's just teen-aged radicalism. Even so, these "radical" 18 - 22 year olds, the ones who missed the '04 election, who helped us in '06, they're going to be voting even louder in '08. All of 'em.

12. Fun post ...
enjoyed it ...

Man, the Rs STILL have their teeth into A GOOD chunk of those who were in their teens and 20s in the 90s ... I have so many good friends, good people ... Kids same age, we like the same music ... Hard working, tough and decent people ... Who had their heads TOTALLY soaked in by Limbaugh ... We can relate on pretty much anything BUT politics, and they STILL believe in the evil "liberal" ...

Agreed that this dimwit was well on his way to being run out office on 9-10-01 ... Check out any graph of his favorability, and it has two clear slopes, a steady drop from the day he took office until 9-11, where it spikes up to 90 percent, and then a steady drop from there ... His WHOLE presidency has been about alienating the people of this country, literally ... He just got the biggest doover in presidencial history with 9-11 ...

I truly hope that the youth of today are not buying this conservative crape ... Kids today are pretty darn sharp, I have to believe they aren't going to be conned ... The kids who don't get indoctrinated by the religious element HAVE to see it for what it is ...

Question is, how motivated are they to even so much as go out and vote ???

17. Great news, generally...but some areas still need work
For example, 61% still think terrorism is a bigger threat than global warming. A majority still don't read any Internet political blogs. And there's the still-stubborn 29% that support * (which is about the same percentage as the public at large).

And how is it that many of the respondents say they're conservative, progressive, and liberal?

20. Great...
now when they don't show up to vote again, it wouldn't have been with the intention of voting repuke.

No offense meant to the younger demo here, I'm still a little jaded by the expected vs. actual turnout of young voters in recent years.
