DU: Doing the GOP's work
So much energy, time, research, and effort have been put into smearing our fellow Democrats on this forum. I have supported all our candidates locally organizing for our nominee, to prepare for the general election and prevent more religious-fundamentalist-Scalia-clones from occupying our federal benches. Yet, every day I come here and see such divisive attack politics it makes me feel that my efforts have been in vain. But, you know what? Such discontinuity is deceptive. The truth is that progressives have never been more unified than they are now. Never more motivated.

My point is that the former has not been manifested here. I say bring on Mr. Dean, Edwards, etc., they would be like night and day in contrast with the current Administration. My question: What do you want DU to do for you? We have the opportunity to focus our efforts on a unifying goal and to add a gust of air to the movement began by Gov. Dean and the citizens of this great country.

2. It was open ended...
What do you want DU to do? A place where we can divide our party or a place where we can work together?

7. I always prefer "working together" ...
We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals.

This is a "big tent" message board. We welcome a wide range of progressive opinion. You will likely encounter many points of view here that you disagree with.

We ban conservative disruptors who are opposed to the broad goals of this website. If you think overall that George W. Bush is doing a swell job, or if you wish to see Republicans win, or if you are generally supportive of conservative ideals, please do not register to post, as you will likely be banned.

It seems apparent that the "shared goals" is to promote the Democratic Party and to replace the current Republican President with a Democratic President.

Technically, anyone who "wishes to see Republicans win" is not welcome to participate. That makes sense for a "Democratic" board. The troubles begin when progressives of all stripes hold the opinion that "electing Democrats" is not the sole solution to our dire dilemma. Does that mean we are at cross purposes, that we have a different "goal"? Or does it mean we perceive the solution in a different way than Party loyalists?

Contrary to the certitude with which some DUers post their opinions, I don't believe anyone has all the "answers". But in striving to enrich a Democratic Society, alternative viewpoints, desires, beliefs, and standards MUST be allowed and respected, even when there is no agreement between the opposing parties.

I think it's safe to say that MOST DUers seek a true Democratic Society. I can't say that I've ever witnessed that state of being at any time during my residence on this planet. We are still working on it.

It's either an evolution into the Democratic Society planned for us by men and women devoted to freedom of expression and the pursuit of happiness. Or, we can allow the richest and most powerful in our society to make all the rules. Rules which benefit themselves and increase their riches and power while we remain peasants with no power. So it depends on what kind of Party you are thinking of when you ask the question. On this, I would say not just DU, but mankind in general, are split in their opinions.

Which one will survive? We are participating in a societal experiment, which is designed to "demonstrate a known truth, examine the validity of a hypothesis, or determine the efficacy of something previously untried". Either that, or we want tyranny, so we can retreat into our closet of fear. Fear has no power and no responsibility other than to answer to the masters of our fate.

Humanity is adaptable. It is our survival tool. We will survive as long as we do on this earth and not one minute longer. Our comfort and experience of our stay on the planet will be determined by what actions we take to influence our environment. In a Democratic Society, we have much more influence over our life circumstances because we are required to make choices and judgments. And in a DS, we will respect those who make choices different from our own.

I certainly plan to work together with others who tend to judge things similar to the way I do. So far, we are a group of undetermined size, that do not believe changing the Party name on the White House, et al, is the total answer. That is a fine goal. But it will not be enough.

What do you think we should do?

8. Fear is our Enemy ..
Those who are like me want Peace and Prosperity, not FEAR as a ruler.

Bush raises spectre of ballistic missile attack
President George W Bush says the United States continues to face the possibility of attack from ballistic missiles armed with weapons of mass destruction.

Mr Bush says this is the reason the US is developing and employing missile defences to guard its people. In his weekly radio address to the nation, Mr Bush warned of more attacks like those of September 11.

"On September the 11th 2001, America and the world saw the great harm that terrorists could inflict upon our country, armed with box cutters, mace and 19 airline tickets," he said.

"Those attacks also raised the prospect of even worse dangers." Mr Bush's speech is being seen as a counter to criticism that the US is unlikely to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

4. I think you underestimate the GOP
Take a look at freeperville. They had some dork put together a fake picture of John Kerry and Jane Fonda onstage together, and sent it all over the internet and even to the tv networks. THAT is the GOP's work.

Look at Drudge. He comes up with some fairly serious slime against Sen. Kerry, true or not, and within days the blogs are filled with that crap. THAT is the GOP's work.

Look at Kasich and his pet piece of crap Hewitt, shouting down Mike Malloy yesterday. When Mike was bringing up fact after fact and point after point, their job was to shout really loud and malign his person. THAT is the GOP's work.

bush travels around the country on our tax dollar, holding $2000/plate fundraisers attended by his elite "Rangers". He's amassed over $200000000 to use in the upcoming campaign, thanks to all those tax breaks he gave to his rich buddies. THAT is the GOP's work.

Here at DU, the overwhelming concern is to defeat bush. If your favorite candidate has been maligned, chances are it's because some people don't think he can do it. Our work is to figure out how to replace bush with a Democrat in the upcoming presidential election. The GOP's work is to put bush in for another four years, whether or not he wins the votes legally.

6. I am quite positive that everyone posting smears against
Kerry, do so because of the fervant commitment to the candidate that they support. Yes, I am quite sure on this. Every last one of them is only interested in furthering the best interests of the Democratic Party. Absolutely.
