Poll question: Kerry Supporters (and others): If Alexandra Polier Says it is True
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 12:05 AM by seventhson
It is now being reported in another thread (warning - it is a Sun report) that Alexandra Polier gave an interview around Christmas that she had an affair with Kerry in 2001. Kerry has denied this.

IF Ms. Polier confirms or clearly states that she did have an affair with Kerry what do you think should happen?

1. I don't believe an interview took place. There is no reason they would
be sitting on a tape if it were true. There is no reason Kerry would lie if there were a tape out there either.

You are far too anxious to spin tales out of rumor and innuendo from known right-wing shit sources. A new thread or two promoting this crap every single day.

5. It's an OPINION poll. A Hypothetical based on a news report.
Thanks you for your opinion. But judging by the responses so far, MANY Duers think Kerry should bow oiut if she does, in fact, say it is true.

My primary reason for believing that he should step out of the race if this happens is because otherwise the DEMOCRATS will be hurt by it in November.

We still have two or three or even four potential viable candidates for November (I would say Edwards, Dean, Gore and Hillary Clinton) if we need to regroup.

But for the good of the party we need to regroup NOW!

Not AFTER Kerry has been canonized and crowned as the nominee

7. Because if the story is TRUE then Kerry lied to YOU and to ME
and the future of our country is in the balance.

I do not care about the sex. I care because it would mean Kerry LIED to all of us, to his wife, and to the country. I have had enough of liars in the White House. I think it shows his true character, if true or if she says it is true (which she apparently has done as reported in another LBN thread tonight).

Should we elect a presdient or choose a nominee who has (possibly) lied to us in order to protect his children?

The lives of tens of thousands of people - and people's children (just to name Iraq) are in the balance. And I believe Kerry will lose if he is the nominee.

33. Not really
I am no tv moralizer. This is a CANDIDATE I do not trust whom I believe may be lying to all potential voters and who, if this is true, lied to his wife.

My children's LIVES are on the line and I do NOT want Kerry to F*** up our country by eithe rblowing this election or beating out an honest candidate like Dean or Edwards.

I have no problem telling my kids that Kerry cheated if it is true.

Hell, they can see that on DeGrassi High.

6. In my opinion...
Kerry cannot just "get out" now.

Due to the condensed primary season, it would look terrible for him to just quit. If the stories were to be true, and he drops out of the race...it would be potentially more damaging than staying in the race.

But, that's just my opinion.

53. Lie to Us???
I don't believe that any Democrat should be spreading or following this tripe. This is ridiculous! The Sun is NOT a legitimate paper. Something is wrong here and not just with the rumor but the people who seem to want it publicized. It is very weird that some candidates are believed no matter how contradictory their statements and Drudge and Rupert Murdoch's slime machine would be believed before the word of John Kerry.
Even if this was true ,it is not anyone's business but Teresa's. It is not ours. And believe me, I have met Teresa several times and she doesn't need Kerry for anything. If she even thought for one minute that he cheated, she would be out of there.People who are buying this story ought to be ashamed to call themselves Democrats because they clearly don't have the best interests of the Party at heart.

I say IF - so far, I'm not convinced at all. And I loathe the idea of Kerry as the nominee, so you know I'm giving him a fair chance!

The Sun is a joke, indeed. Unless I hear it from a reputable source - with some tangible evidence - I won't bother with this.

I decided to turn on Drudge on the radio on KSFO just about 5 minutes ago. He is sounding awfully smug and selfrighteous about it. About how there are double standars and such. What a puke.

He claims to have HEARD the interview and it's true.

What is drudge's batting average? Is he a liar?
I hope so.

and there were letters. I do not have the link, but I know I read that.

The parents confirmed that they were communicating with each other, though they do not confirm an affair.

Her statement would be considered evidence. I admit it may be her word against his -- but I would taker her word over Kerry's almost any time because I do not trust him at all.

After that, Beelzebub must be off for bed; the mirth has ruined me for the night, Sir.

So you at least acknowledge, Mr. Son, that these vast conspiracies do not reliably work. You should think a little deeper on that theme, Sir; it is the beginning of wisdom, and of lower blood pressure, and of a feeling you can control your own life.

You have my best wishes, Mr. Son.

there is no antiboner faction of the trilateral.

They are one and the same.

This was a premature ejaculation of information on the BFEE's part.

they oopsy'd in the daizys.

They slipped up and forgot to pull out (this story) soon enough.

If they had only been less eager they might have been able to hold back until Kerry was coronated. Then they could cream him with the interview (if such exists).

13. Alex Polier is the only one who can kill this rumor
If she comes forward with an actual accusation, true or not, then Kerry's campaign is compromised. Now it's possible that Kerry could withstand the smears and win the election anyway, depending on how he handles it, but it sets him up for other charges.

The talking point is this: "If he can't be faithful to his wife, how can we trust him with our country?"

Sen. Kerry needs to be prepared with a solid rebuttal, not some wishy-washy crap about the meaning of "is".

If it's a false allegation, he needs to work with Ms. Polier to file a libel suit vs. Drudge et al, ASAP. The tabloids are not liable for damage to Senator Kerry's campaign, as he is a public figure, but Ms. Polier has been named and she can claim defamation.

THAT is more than a rumor now. It is a news report that she said it DID happen.

I have violated no rules here and thew question is a hypothetical based on a news story that will either be confirmed or not.

But thew weight of opinion seems to agree with me.

Trying to get my threads locked by calling me out only makes it seem like there is something to hide.

That is against the rules, sir, But I am not alerting on you as I feel the legitimacy of the question is solid and I feel alerting to silence discussion is beneath me and most of us here.

Edited to add that the article in question was "warned" on in my poll and was posted and not locked in LBN

57. Assume its true: Interview on Faux only after other Dems drop out of race
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 04:45 AM by nu_duer
This is my suspicion anyway.

Assume the rumor is true, and that there is an interview.

We have rw Drudge pushing it, and murdoch's rw Sun pushing it. If there is an interview with a US network, the only logical guess would be murdoch's rw faux news.

Assume faux news has a damning, or spinnable as damning, interview to air, and has had it since Christmas. Why haven't they aired it yet? Because taking Kerry down now would allow Dean or Edwards or Kucinich or Sharpton to fill that void, giving Dems the option to switch to another candidate. But what if the rw pigs wait until all the others have dropped out to air this interview? Then we'd be "stuck" with Kerry, for better or worse - and if Kerry flat out lied about his relationship with this woman, worse could be really bad.

I'm not saying this to slam Kerry. But the rw whores are saying there's an interview, and, if you put yourself in their place, it would make sense only to keep this ball in the air until it could do the most damage. Surely they'd prefer to take out the Dem nominee rather than a Dem candidate for the nomination.

And just for the record, I think whatever goes on between consenting adults is there own business. But if that strong denial from Kerry is met with the woman insisting something other, well, that's the problem. Its not the sex, but the denial that could be spun as a lie that could really hurt us all.

Again, just putting myself in the rw smear team's place, IF this affair/interview stuff is true.

61. If it comes down to "he said she said"
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 06:08 AM by loyalsister
we will spend the entire election season defending ourselves while they vet one peice of quirky "evidence" after another- instead of playing offense over the economy and the foreign policy mess they have created. If "he said\she said" happens, I think Kerry should quietly exit, and we should get behind Edwards.
If Kerry stays in, the stories will roll in slowly, and unravel even more slowly. There is no closer association with the least favorable qualities of Clinton than a sex scandal. Clinton's favorability was all about incumbancy and his charisma- neither of which Kerry has. His only attachment to Clinton would be the shared quality of being a "pervert." That will not help him get elected.
There is no sense in having a mad dash between Dean and Edwards. Edwards has a better chance, because Dean has alienated too many people. ABB!!

64. If the GOP thinks this will derail the anti-Bush sentiment, they're fools
Edited on Mon Feb-16-04 07:17 AM by Dover
People were, in the end, more disgusted with the GOP spectacle than they were Clinton's infidelity (though disappointed). No way are people going to be influenced toward Bush because of this, regardless of whether it's true or not.

I'm no Kerry fan, but I don't think this will bring him down. I DO think the other candidates ought to stay in the race through to the convention.
