What does this mean in the whole scheme of things, if anything?

REmember when Bill started chumming around with Bush Sr., and a lot of us at DU couldn't understand why.

NOt sure if anyone satisfactorily addressed this bizarre relationship.

35. One little anecdote I will never forget...
Jackie Kennedy hosting the Clintons (I think twice?) on board her yacht of the coast of Mass., it was billed as a casual social visit. No secret service on board, just them, and Maurice Tempelsman. I've often wondered exactly what was discussed during these meetings. I think this is probably a big key to why Poppy extended a friendly hand to the Clintons and why Bill made it out alive.

36. Ex-President's club..
There are of course a very exclusive club, and they know and have experienced things that no other person in the world can relate to. I think in fact, Poppy has no use for his own son and vice versa, and that Poppy and Bill have a very strange surrogate father/son relationship based on mutual respect.

The Clintons are really the only people in history Poppy has tried and failed to beat down, and I think he give them their props for it..

They embody what most of the country SAYS they want - an ability for the two parties to work together.

They're politicians of the old school, not ideological purists like most of the media and blog-o-sphere (including DU).

Why shouldn't they get along?

21. The peaceful transfer of power is the hallmark of this nation
And the "DLC-bi partisan bullshit" is in large part what got us 8 years of a Democratic administration. Am I a supporter of everything the DLC says? No. But I recognize that a party has to attact more than half of the middle-ground 40% of the voters in this country to succeed, and the hysterical wings of either party are not going to attract such voters.

Politics is by its very nature a game of compromise and expediency. Ideological purists apparently would prefer to be a permanent, increasingly irrelevant minority rather than sully themselves by aligning with the more pragmatic elements and actually getting elected.

That's religion, not politics. Have fun with that.

Maybe you could spend some time actually HELPING Obama. He needs it!

Hillary Poll Leads:

July 25, 2007 Insider Advantage South Carolina post-debate poll:

Clinton 42.8% Obama 27.6% Edwards 12.8%

Southern Political Report: "These results now reflect the some 15% spread between Clinton and Obama shown in other recent surveys in South Carolina. More importantly, they beg a strategy by Obama to find a way to win back African-American support and to find a way to expand his support among whites.

They are too busy "gagging" over pictures and bashing the true leader of the polls

23. What is it with you (and your friends) and Obama??
Obsessed? Or is it just an uncontrollable reflexive reaction to shout his name anytime someone starts a thread about Hillary?? The OP never said anything about being an Obama supporter.

I swear, ya'll blame Obama supporters every.single.time. You're giving the impression to the forum that there's a much bigger war going on than there is.

Truth be told there are maybe 2 people who support Obama who regularly go off on Hillary. Maybe another 4 or 5 who voice their dislike of her occassionally. The other 900 people who don't like her don't like Obama either.

It's like your toying with people to amuse yourself and maybe a couple of others. I sincerely don't get the strategy. It doesn't help anybody that I can tell. Certainly not Hillary.

Clinton leaves Tanzania after holding talks with President Kikwete

Former US President Bill Clinton has left for home, following his three-day working visit to assist Tanzania in its fight against malaria.

Clinton, who left on Tuesday, has been on a Southern Africa safari, visiting South Africa, Zambia and Malawi — conducting various humanitarian activities.

He arrived in Tanzania on Sunday to promote low cost treatment for malaria, Africa’s major killer disease, with simple remedies.

Foreign ministry and State House officials said the former US leader held a closed-door meeting in the northern town of Arusha Tuesday with President Jakaya Kikwete before leaving the country.

Though diplomats declined to speculate on what the two leaders discussed during their tête-à-tête, no doubt Clinton’s efforts to reduce HIV/Aids and malarial deaths in Tanzania was at the centre of the talks.

Clinton, after leaving office in 2001, formed the Clinton Foundation for HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) to help fight the killer disease as well as treat tuberculosis and malaria in Africa.

32. Wrong metric, Wolf
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 08:06 AM by BeyondGeography
Lotta good those approval ratings did us in 2000:

The latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup tracking poll indicates 58 percent of Americans approve of the job Clinton is doing as president. But after surviving impeachment more than a year ago, Clinton trails Gore in the number of people who view him favorably.

Overall, 17 percent of all voters say they would be more likely to vote for Gore if Clinton were to campaign for the vice president. But 40 percent said they were less likely to vote for Gore with Clinton stumping for him, and 40 percent said that would have no effect.

Among independent voters, the net loss for Gore could be far greater: Gallup's survey indicated that 45 percent of independents would be less likely to vote for the vice president if Clinton were to campaign for him, while only 10 percent said they would be more likely to support Gore. Another 37 percent of independents said Clinton's efforts would make no difference.

why can't they play golf together. Does that mean that republicans should move to one side of the country and democrats to the other an never the twain to meet. Bull.
