JFK* will have to wait till Hell freezes over to get one cent from me.
Which according to tonight's forecast isn't that far off. But, seriously, I am so disillusioned with this whole nomination/coronation that I am ready to drop back out. The day after the NY primary I will proudly switch my party affiliation (back) to Independent. The DNC is no better than the RNC, they can both kiss my formerly fat ass! They won't see a penny from me (or probably my children) in my lifetime. My kids got excited about Dean, the ones old enough registered to vote, now they are being told that it is sewn up, Kerry '04 ad nauseum. The media and the party have spoken, get back in line. Nothing to see here, move along. I thought this was still a democracy?

**I originally posted this in response to another post, but feel so passionately about it, I want to shout it to the world.

1. Not a democracy? Aren't voters making these decisions? Jesus...

2. Coronation?
How so? Kerry has won the lions share of the votes. That makes it an election , not a coronation. Don't blame the media for Deans shortcomings. The voters, not the media or the party have selected Kerry.

asking that I send money to the DNC. No way!

4. Just be sure that you vote for him to get Bush out!

And remember that the voters are putting Kerry in first place all the time.

I want Dennis Kucinich for president but the voters aren't agreeing with me. What can I do? Vote for Kucinich in my primary and the Democratic nominee in November. I don't like the front-loaded primaries but the DNC did it to help us win so I can't complain about the motive.

6. The will of only.................
20% of the voters. The other 80% I am sure would like to have a little bit of a say in this process.

17. 25%
And the other 75% still get to vote. Polls in most states show the same results.

25. Which is what I meant by asking if this is still a democracy.
I would really like the chance to vote in this primary before the winner is declared.

28. You can vote for
whoever you want. If Dean(or Edward or whoever you support) drops out before your primary, you can still vote for him.

No one is forcing anyone to vote for Kerry. If the voters wanted Dean, Kucinich or Clark they would have voted for them. The person with the loudest megaphone doesn't always win.

Interesting that a few short weeks ago we were all supposed to jump on the Dean bandwagon because he was the one that was going to be the nominee. He still could be, but he will have to win the nomination by actually having more people vote for him.

7. Your kids have learned
that your guy doesn't always win - but that doesn't mean you pick up your ball and go home. Kerry is far preferable to 4 more years. Idealism - then pragmatism - especially now.

8. I understand.
It's as if each candidate is just a another traffic accident waiting to happen. After each state votes the talk about who should drop out becomes louder and more incessant until another candidate is forced to careen over the embankment and burst into flames. "Keep the traffic moving," says the police officer.

Never mind the thousands upon thousands of primary voters who will more or less be disenfranchised because "the people have spoken" with less than half the delegates committed.

As Henry Ford once said, "You can have any color car you want as long as it's black."

Hang in there. The world is not at its end yet.

Here's a link to a commentary I really liked that I'm sure you will too.

12. I hear you loud and clear, LosinIt
JFK will get nothing from me, ever!! I refuse to support him in any fuction at all, except for a check mark in November. That's all he get's from me. I'm proud not to support a man that I disagree with on many topics and who has abandoned the Cause over the last few years. He deserves nothing and will get nothing from me.

27. Please use the * when referring to the JFK* of this century.
The distinction is important. Even though they sailed together, I am not sure if the original JFK would approve of this one. (Ducks incoming flamage)

29. Certainly! I will use the * more often!!
JFK* !!!! I like it and it reminds me of *, who he's trying to replace. It's like he's not as good as the original, but Hell, the RW shot that guy, so lets put of this joker for election. He's voted enough for * bills, Kerry deserves the * at the end of his name, as a Bush enabler.

13. It's the voters that have spoken....
and continue to speak. They're choosing Kerry. I haven't heard any reports of CNN anchors, Terry MacAuliffe or Karl Rove marching these people to the polling place at gunpoint and forcing them to do anything.

Yes, it's disappointing when your guy doesn't win. As a Clark supporter (and a Jerry Brown supporter, and a Gary Hart supporter, and a Mondale supporter, ad nauseum)I know how it feels.

But I never blamed amorphous, nebulous entities like "the media" for their failings.

People are voting. They're picking Kerry overwhelmingly, all across the country. My guy didn't win, either, but I'm used to it. At least they're picking the guy who has the best shot against Bush.

16. I understand your sentiments....Dean is a breath of fresh air compared
to Washington insider Kerry. I am dreading the complete gridlock
coming in Washington with Kerry in the WH and repub congress.
Dean, Edwards or Clark would be much more able to fight with the
repub majority in congress (expected by pundits in 2004).
